Water Works Notice.
THE PUBLIC IS REQUESTED TO
be very careful to leave all hydrants
and other openings closed th avoid
any waste of water. We have found
many cases, where parties will
leave hydrants open, presumably to
be certain to know when the water
is turned on. This causes a great
waste which must be stopped.
Water will not be put on in the
afternoon until further notice.

MR. HICKMAN SAYS
HE CANNOT ACCEPT
Regrets That Other Mat
ters Will Prevent His
Holding Offered Commis
sion.
Mr. Tracy I. Hickman said this
morning to a Herald reporter that he
would not be able to accept the cap
taincy of Troop K., Richmond Hus
sars.
"To fill the office Uke it should be”
said Mr. Hickman, "would require
much of my time, more, really, than
I couid spare. Then, also, I would
have to l'CHign as captain of the One
Hundred Club, Mounted, which orga
nization I am deeply interested in,
and would dislike to sever my connec
tion with them. I was a member of
the Hussars fifteen years, the best
years of my life when I was young. I
think a lot of the troop, and it has
been a source of pleasure for me to
know the boys want me as captain
again,”
The nomination of Mr Hickman was
made some time ago, soon after Capt..
Dempsey resigned. He was urged to
accept, as the Hussars wanted him
by unanumous choice to accept the
position. Several gentlemen interest
ed in the troop made effort to per
suade Mr. Hickman to accept, but he
very firmly and graciously declined,
and has never altered his decision.
Lieut, Tom Stafford will probably
he the choice of the troop. But for
Ills earnest desire to see .Mr. Hick
man elected, he would probably have
been elected some time ago. How
ever, now that Mr. Hickman has de
clined acceptance, he is the most
natural and competent choice of the
organization.
