DIVORCE SCENE ENACTED IN
FRONT OF VAUDEVILLE
In front, of the vandevlUo, which Is
about to open and where a successful
divorce play was given last winter
a real divorce scene has just been
enacted which Is, however, far from
the vaudeville type.
A husband, whose wife has begun
a Bull for divorce a month seemed
determined to make It quite unneces
suity by beating her to death, lie
was using a loaded cane on her, as
ter having knocked the unfortunate
woman down and kicked her about
The crowd on the boulevard looked
on, afraid to Intervene, because the
Infuriated husband had threatened to
kill anyone who should attempt to
do bo. ltut a young soldier was
brave enough to come forward and
put an end to the scene by pulling
the woman out of the man's reach
and wresting the cane out of his
hands. The police then took affair
and arrested the husband, while his
wife was taken to a hospital, not
quite dead, but very nearly so. The
young soldier who was on sick fur
lough was afterwards waimilv con
gratulated by the magistrate for his
brave deed.
