An Ordinance.
To Provide for tho Creation of a
Flood Commission, to Define Its
Powers, Duties and Membership
to Cary an Appropriation to Do
fray the Expenses of the Same,
and for Other Purposes.
The City Council of Augusta hereby
ordains:
Section 1. That the City Council of
Augusta does hereby create a com
mission with full power, duty and au
thority to Investigate by Itself, or by
competent engineers, agents and em
ployes, the causes of flood conditions
lu the City of Augusta aud County of
Richmond, and to dovlse and report
to Council, as soon us practicable,
suitable and appropriate measures for
the protection of said City and County
from floods and freshets
Sec. 2- That said Commission shall
be composed of eleven members, to
wit: Five members to be appointed
by the Mayor from the community at
large; the Mayor, the City Attorney,
■the Commissioner of Public Works,
and three members of Council, to bo
appointed by the Mayor.
Sec. 8. That tho Mayor, City At
torney and Commissioner, and three
Counctlnmnic members shall bold as
ex-offlelo, and upon the expiration of
their terms of office their membership
upon the commission shall cease as
soon as their successors In office
shall have been chosen; and. upon the
expiration of the terms of the said
Councllmanlc members, the Mayor
shall fill tho vacancies thereby created
from Council; and tho five members
at largo shall hold during (ho life of
said Commission.
See. 4. Thai upon the death or
resignation or any member of said
Commission, the Mayor shall have au
thority, and It shall bo his duty, to
appolvt a successor to fill the va
eancy.
Sec. 5. Tlint. the sum of Five Thou
sand Dollars, or so much thereof as
may be necessary, Is hereby appropri
ated to the use of said Commission, to
be expended in its discretion, to carry
out the purposes of this ordinance.
