Woman’s Obstinancy Versus Man’s;
About the Merry Widow Seat Sale.
Is woman the more obstinate or
is man? If a public debate were to
be inatiguarated on thlK subject, with
all the men on one side and all the
women on the other, we can imagine
the discussion becoming pretty live
ly, not to say acrid. Because each
sex Is quite convinced that the other
is by lar the offender In this respect,
and it's own In the majority o:
cases most mild and yielding.
An old writer summed the matter
up in the famous adage: "If a wo
man will, she will, you may depend
on't; and If she won't, she won’t and
there's an end on’t.” But all old
adages are not true, and poaalbly
this is one of them.
Let us take one phase of the case,
and examine It, if such a thing is
possible, from a non-partisan point of
view. Tn Ihe mattor of love how
does the case stand? Woman is in
dined to demand more, exact more,
to have the love of her sweetheart
constantly reiterated to her, while
man, after the first assurance, is
more apt to take the essential facts
for granted.
For Instance, suppose after a lit
tle tiff, justified, or unjustified, the
girl in fists upon the man saying once
more, what he has said often, ‘T love
vou,” or all is over between them;
and he insisting, If she really means
that, he will never say It again.
This is, to all intents and pur
poses, (he crucial situation between
Prince Lanilo and Sonia in Fran/.
Lehar's extraordinarily successful
opera. "The Merry Widow.” And
what happens? Why, what generally
happens in real life. The girl—but
no, you, my dear sir or my dear
young lady, you have your own opln
ion of the proper action in such a
matter. Go and see "The Merry
Widow ” and decide If, according to
your Ideas, the denounement is tho
right one.
Then talk it over. But —wait a
minute—perhaps that advice iB not
very good. Still, at any rate, it
will be likely to solve the question
In your own mind, as to the relative
strength ol man's and woman's ob
stinacy.
"The Merry Widow" will be seen
and heard at the Grand next Friday
and Saturday and Saturday matinee,
Prices 50 cents to 82.00. Mail or
ders received when accompanied by ]
remittance. The free list Is entire- .
ly suspended. The box office is now
