NEW COMET FOUND
NEAR POLAR STAR
LONDON. —A bright, telescopic
comet, with a fan-shaped tail, has just
been discovered, and will be an ob
ject of considerable Interest, during
the next few weeks. It Is situated In
the northern sky and about twenty de
gress from the Polar star, the rough
position for September 8 being right
ascension 45 degrees north, declina
tion 70 degrees. The comet Is mov
ing to northwest at the rato of one
degree dally.
Astronomers have not yet calcu
lated the orbit of the comet, so that
it is not known whether the object is
really approaching the earth or re
ceding from ns. If this mysterious
stranger is directing its (light toward
us we may see it make a fine display
during the moonless nights of this
month, when moonlight will not In
terfere with observations.
luring the ensuing month or two
11 will pass through the region lying
between the Polar star and the con
stellations Cassiopeia and Cepheus.
Astronomers all Ihe world over will
heartily welcome the new visitor, as
the present year has been somewhat,
barren as regards conietary discov
eries.
NEW INSTITUTE FOR
SEAMEN’S CONFERENCE
Many Delegates Front All
Over the World To At

■ ' hi - m
NEW YORK. -From almost every
country in I in* world representatives
have arrived in New York to attend
the conference of the New Institute
for Stamen. Delegates come from
the 45 foreign stations of the Amer

well as from similar organizations of
Great Britain and other nations. The
conference will endeavor to solve
Htnno of the problems against which
sailors have to contend the world
over.
A SUBSTANTIAL DESSERT.
To the busy housewife In the midst
of her morning, dill los, the monoton
ous query, "what shall we have for
lunch?" st times is almost madden
ing. A delicious yet substantial and
ecor'imical dish can be quickly and
easily prepared to answer this ques
tion llvfi besides satisfying the pal
ate Is gratifying to the liomekeeper
us she hears the hungry brood around
her table exclaim, "Why, this ’s
mighty good."
Take cold boiled rlee from a pro
vlotts meal and freshen by bringing
to a boll with tnllk, using enough to
get a soft yet firm mixture. Add a
benten egg if desired. Sweeten and
flavor,to taste. Put this in a serving
dish and pour over II the syrup and
fruit from a ran of pineapple. The
Cayenne variety is preferable as It %
sweeter and gives a pleasing fruity
flavor. Tills may be served cold or
as soon as prepared. This novel dlali
seldom fulls to please, anil Its nutri
tive value Is beyond question. Try it..
