Under the rules governing the

It was Manager Jennings' inten

Contractors had double forces of

Why Colds Are Dangerous.
Because you have contracted ordi
nary colds and recovered from them
without treatment of any Kind, do
not for a moment imagine that colds
are not dangerous Everyone knows
that pneumonia and chronic catarrh
have their origin in a common cold
Consumption is not caused by a cold
but the cold prepare* the svstern for
the reception and development of tho
germs that would not otherwise have
found lodgment. It is the same with
all infectious diseases. Diphtheria,
scarlet fever, measles and whooping
cough are much more likely to be
contracted when the ohild has a cold
You will see from Ibis that more real
danger lurks in a cold than in any
other of the common ailments. The
easiest jind quickest way to cure a
cold itMto take Chamberlain's Cough
Remedy. The many remarkable cures
effected by this preparation have
made it a staple article of trade
over a large pari of the worldp For

PULLIAM SAYS RACE
WAS GREATEST EVER
CINCINNATI, O. —The members of
the national baseball commission deft
at noon yestertlay for Detroit to at
tend the opening game of the World's
championship series, which begin
there this afternoon. No statement
further than last night’s official an
nouncement of the conditions govern
ing the contest was given out, but
President Pulliam, in an interview,
talked entertainingly of the champion
ship race. Ke said:
It was the greatest race in the his
tory' of baseball.
And the best team undoubtedly
won.
But there was great glory for other
lea** besides the winners in the bat
tles that were fought right down to
the last day.
All the honor should go to the Now
York team for the gallant fight they
made to bring the flag to Gotham.
With practically only two depend
able pitchers, they fought their way
front a lowly position to the leader
ship in the rae, holding that place
for a long time by a display of game
ness and baseball ability that has
rarely, if ever, been equaled In base
ball.
Pittsburg, too, deserves the limit
of praise for the fight made by its rep
resentative iu the National League.
As for the Chieagos, they are a
great, game, able team. No team In
the league suffered more through ac
cidents and illness during the season
than the''Cubs. Yet they were never
discouraged, but were always fighting
among the leaders.
So far as the National League race
was concerned, it was the greatest,
cleanest baseball fighi in the history
of our organisation. The matter of
the disputed game between the Giants
and the Cubs is to be greatly doplored,
of course, but it was settled in the
only honorable way that could be de
vised.

DETROIT FANDOM KEYED
TO HIGHEST PITCH
OF EXCITEMENT
(BY J. W. M'CON NAOUGHY.) .
DETROIT, Mich.—-Never has interest been keyed up to aurh a high
pitch In baseball history of the city as it is today, which marks the
opening of the great world series between the Detroits, champion* of
the American league and the Chicago*, champions of the National
league.
There is more betting on the result ot the series than has over
been done befoie. Most of the wagers are placed at oven money.
The Cub* cleaned up the Tiger* in easy fashion last season, and
they feel confident that they Will be able to repeat in the present se
ries However, Manager Jennings and all his band are Jtttft us sure
they will not be beaten by the Windy City talent.
The Tigers are much fiesher than the Cubs, as (hey have had a
rest slijce last Tuesday when the- won the championship ot the Am
erican league by defeating the White Sox on their home grounds.
The Tigers will have no sxeuse to make this year, as they hail
lasi ysar, when they laid Ihe loss of the games to the tact that their
catcher* had to play with broken fingers.
Both teams are in the finest possible shape for battle. Neither
team is handicapped by the absence of any of its stars ott account of
accidents.
Manager Chance probably will send Ed Reulbaeh to the rubber.
This (wirier has not been scored on in the lasi thirty-two timings that
he has pitched One of the big slunts that he has done r», t| l( . dia
mond this season wa* to pitch a double header against the Dodgers
and win both games.
In the opinion of Manager Chance, Reulbaeh is one of the biggest
stars that baseball has ever known, and he is confident that he will be
able to humiliate the Tigers.
Ed Killian, a southpaw ot more than average ability, will go to the
rubber in all probability for Ihe home talent. He Is better than ev«r
before this season, and Manager Jennings is sure tint he will be nble
to draw first blood Tor th< locals
With these twirling allngera in the box the horde of fans that will
throng the baseball park are sur - to see c*e of the finest exhibitions
of the diamond sport that it has ever bean ihe pleasure of any fans In
the country to aee.
