Sunday.
After an entorced evacuation of six
weeks, the congregation of St. John
Methodist church will be able on Sun
day to again worship in the main
church auditorium.
During the Hood, water rose con
siderably In the church, immersing
the carpet, and leaving a thick sedi
ment of mud. This has now all been
removed, the carpets have been wash
ed, dried pressed and replaced, and
hardly a trace of flood remains. In
the meantime, services were held in
the Sunday school rooms.
Rev fletcher Walton, pastor will
conduct morning and evening worship
today, and Sunday school will be held
at the usual hour.

ATLANTA, Ga. —The first case of
the- violation of the prohibition law in
selling the so-called near-beer to be
finally disposed of, resulted in a jury
verdict of not guilty.
Ben Rosenthal was indicted on the
charge of selling a beer, in which ex
perts testified, chemical analysis dis
closed nearly five per cent alcohol.
it was testified by witnesses for
the Anti-Saloon League that four or
five bottles of the beer had been suf
ficient to produce intoxication. De
spite this, the prosecution was un
able to Impress the jury with its
case.
BATTLESHIPS PASS
FEARFUL STORM
TOKlO.—Preparations are now con
cluded for the reception of the Amer
ican battleship fleet at Yokohama
Sunday. Though sadly disarranged
by the storm, the new program is
fully as good, if not better, than the
old. A wireless message from the
fleet Saturday described the havoc of
tht terrible storm which overtook the
ships off the northern Philippine
coast. The following report was re
(eived:
"On Board U. S. S Connecticut, off
Cape Shimosake, October 17, 5.10 a.
in On the morning of October 12
the licet encountered a northeast gale
i ff the north coast of the Island of
Luzon, of the Philippine group. The
storm was very heavy and all that
afternoon and night the seas were tre
mendously heavy. The fleet was mov
ing In line of squadron at the dis
tance of 800 yards, and the vessels
were rolling and pitching heavily.
Speed was reduced, but the ships
were constantly taking seas aboard
"The heart of the storm was re
ported on the morning of the 13th.
The Virginia. New Jersey and Wis
consin each lost lifeboats, and th •
foretopniasi of the Kearsarge was car
ried away, but repairs were soon t-T
fected.

“William Fuller, a gunner's mate,,
was washed overboard from the quar
terdeck of the Rhode Island anil was
drowned. A Gladden, a seaman, was
washed overboard from the Minne

A PROCLAMATION.
By llis Excellency. Hoke Smith, Gover
nor of Georgia
Whereas, the General Assembly, at Its
session in 190 s, proposed an amendmen
to the Constitution of this state, as fol
lows:
Section 1. Re It enacted by the Gen
eral Assembly of Georgia, and it is her.-
by enacted by authority of the same,
that paragraph 1, section 1, article * oi
the Constitution of this State, tie anu
the same Is hereby amended by adding
at the end of said paragraph the fol
lowing To make provision for the
payment of pensions of any ex-Confoe
erate soldier, now resident of this state,
who enlisted in the military service or
this s:sic. or who enlisted in the mili
tary service of the Confederate States,
during the civtl war between the states
of the United States, und who perform
ed actual military service tn the armies
of the Confederate states, or the or
ganized militia of Hits jtate and was
honorably discharged therefrom, and to
j widows, now resident of this state, of
! ex-Confederale soldiers who enlisted in
tin* military service of the Confederata*
. atos. and who performed actual mili
ary service In the armies of the Con-

Whereas, Annie R. Deas, on the
2Gth day of June, 1907. made her
promissory note in the principal sum
of five hundred ($500) dollars, pay
able to the order of Mamie H. Fos
ter, three years after date with in
terest from date at the rate of eight
per cent per annum; and
Whereas, the said Deas executed
and delivered unto the said Foster,
as provided in section 2771 of the
Code of Georgia, a deed conveying to
the said Foster:
All those ten lots of land in the
county and state aforesaid, in the vil
lage of Summerville, known and des
ignated as lots number eight (B>, nine
(9), ten (10). eleven (11), twelve (12).
thirteen (13). fourteen (14), fifteen
(15), sixteen (16), seventeen (17). on

Whereas default has been made in
the payment of the interest and by
the terms of said note, said security
deed and the bond for title, the said
deb has matured by reason of said
default.
