There Is an Interesting tradition
(that the original Marine Band was
I kidnapped from the sunny slopes of
| Sicily. There is no authentic record
:of what became of this hand of Italian
j raublcians, as many of the Marine
corpg archives were destroyed in

j “Rc.beeca of Sunnybrook Farm.”
j A typical old fashioned stage coach
■is one of the “properties” used in
Kluw and Erlanger’s production of
j "Rebecca of Sunnybijpok Farm,” the
charming New England idyl which is
to he seen at the Grand Friday and
[Saturday, November 10th and 1 1th.
The stage coach is used tor the
entrance of the small heroine of the
i comedy, Rebecca herself, when she
I comes to make her home with the
jaustre and trim old maids, her moth
jer’s sisters, whose cold hearts the
'sun shine and warmth of Rebecca’s

BIJOU'S NEW SHOW
| A new show throughout will be of
|fered at the Bijou tonight, and word
| has come from Savannah that !t Is
! the season’s best. Now, that may
appear to be stretching it a little, but
I this show packed the busy Bijou in
Savannah at every performance for
the first three days of this week, and
11. Is safe to say that It will pack the
popular Bijou here at each perform
ance. The bill consists of a variety
of acts, and from a glance at the pro
gram glve n below, it is a very prom
ising show. The program will be as
follows:
The Bijougraph, presenting a new
De Luxe photo-play with a si long
cast of motion picture artists. Billy
Baron, musical Inclined, will no doubt
be a sensation with a new novelty
'muselal act. Zeno and Madel, com
jedy pianists, were one of the features
j in Savannah, and their success here
! will no doubt be as great. The Three
| Nevaros, a sensational European
I novelty acrobatic act, will be the fea
ture of this show; they come highly
endorsed, and it is said that ihev
jhave the best act now in vaudeville
jot' their kind. Wallace and Beach
i will handle the comedy singing and
| talking end of the program and their
] ability as entertainers i s by no means
j small. The Bijougraph will close with
I another De Luxe photo-plav. It’s a
1 big show' and well worth one’s time,
j And will stand the test of the "First
Nightcrs As usual a large house
1 will be on hand to take a Slant. The
1 performances will commence at 8 and
,2:30 evenings, and 4 p. m. matinees.

OUR DUMB FRIENDS.
Reformers, wake! A crying wrong
Has been permitted overlong!
And wanton cruelty hides behind
A sovcalled "service to mankind.”
Ah, save dumb vegetables' life
Horn the too eager kitchen-knife.
Their fate contributes not a bit
To "scientific benefit."
What torture must a cabbage feel
As nearer comes the glittering steel;
And pierces, with a fiendish art.
Straight to the tend' quivering
heart!
Potatoes suffer without doubt
When ruthless hands their eyes cut
out!
Say, does it aid our humankind
When these dumb creatures are made
blind?
Again they wreak their horrid will.
Furthering (say they) the aurist's
skiU.
Its dumb appeal they treat with scorn.
And cut the ears from living corn!
These elfful truths should make us
pause
And reconstruct our country's laws:
With righteous wrath our blood should
boil
At martyssad victims of the soil.
Oh, Anti-Vivisectlonist,
This portion of your work you've
missed!
And your success is hut defeat
If man may flay a living beet!
—Carolyn Wells, in Harper’s Magazine.
