Gone, but not forgotten.
The deadly cigarette again.
Has anybody seen our editor?
Fitzsimmons is the only pebble
on the beach.
The one, only, and celebrated
Sam Jones is still hard at it in At¬
lanta.
_
Discussing the fight in Jesup—
What did I tell you? Didn’t 1
say it was impossible for Fitzsim¬
mons to lose? Didn’t he lick—?
'Shut up! You make me tired.
Sam Jones is given c-edit for
being able to move the heart of
the most hardened sinner, We
wish Sam had struck Jesup a week
or so ago. Possibly he would have
moved the heart of the editor and
manager to such «n extent that he
may have been induced to pay us
back salary before leaving for
parts unknown.
Greece Bendy for Gore.
Athens, March 17.—It is the
general belief here that nothing
jjow can prevent war, and that
Greece has its plan of campaign
fully prepared. The cabinet had
a long session to-day as to the at¬
titude to be taken in face of the
coercive programme of Europe and
it is reported that a decision was
reached to take active measures,
ns being the only solution possible
for Greece.
The centre of interest is now
transferred from Crete to the Ma¬
cedonian frontier. It is evident
front the haste wnieh the govern
ment has displayed in getting its
available troop otf before the com
meneement of the blockade there
is a strong conviction that they
will be needed at once. With the
sea route closed the transportation
of troops must be overland, and
this would be un exceedingly slow
and difficult process, owing to the
lack of horses and the very incom¬
plete railway system in the northern
port ions of Greece. Many of the war
correspondents have already arrived
at Volo, Larissa and other frontier
points. The Greek officers on
frontier find the utmost difficulty
in restrainidg their men, and the
departure of Crown Prince Con¬
stantine to the frontier has been
deferred on the advice of the gen¬
erals in command, who fear that
his presence would have a danger¬
ously exciting influence upon the
troops.
Since the publication in the
semi- official press of the exposi¬
tion of Count MuraviefTs Italian
policy which appeared at the mo¬
ment when it was most calculated
to influence the French government
the feeling of the public press of
Greece has been one of the fiercest
resentment towards Russia. The
Greek royal family is also serious
ly disappointed by the attitude of
Russia, and France is be.ieved to
have sacrificed her Cretan syrapa
thies upon the altar of the Franco
Russian entente.

To Our Subscribers.
There has been a change made in
the management of the Wayne
County News during the past week,
and we can safely say that it is a
change for the better. Our “ much
missing” editor arid manager seems
to have been running things in a
very loose manner, and to have
been totally deficient in knowledge
of business methods.
The News will hereafter be under
the management of Mr. A. Cain,
who proposes to put it in the place
which it is entitled to occupy, and
to make it one the leading weekly
papers in Georgia. While the
News has a good circulation and is
favorably received in this section,
still, we think that the fact of its
being located at the county seat,
and of its being one of the only
two papers in Wayne county en¬
titles it to a much larger circula¬
tion than it enjoys at present.
The new management
pushing the paper for all it is
worth, and will endeavor io have it
in every home in Wayne county.
The News is a splendid advertis¬
ing medium, and it wijl be to the
interest of those engaged in busi
ness of any kind whatsoever
patronize it liberally. Care will
betaken to see that their “ads”
are displayed to the best advan¬
tage, and the rates charged
the use of the columns of
paper will enable every one to
them for the purpose of advertis
ing their business to the best
vantage.
It is the aim of the
of the News to give Wayne
a paper of which it may he
proud.

Where, oh where, is the Editor J
gone? |
All Jesup has been asking this !
question for the past week, and so
far as we know, hasn’t received a
satisfactory answer yet.
We strongly suspect that some
jealous rival sheet—envious of the
prestige which the News has ob
.
tained through the medium of this ;
brilliant writer’s pen—has boldly
and unscrupulously kidnapped him
with the object of using him on
their editorial staff, thereby rais
ing themselves to. the standard of
excellence which the News now en
J°y®- We warn them that if such
is the case, and we are able to trace
the disappearance of our “loved
one?” to their doors, that a heavy
and well-merited punishment
awaits them.
Although greatly handicapped
by the loss of this powerful intel¬
lect—whose masterly grasp of all
the great questions which are agi
tating the country at the present
day has won for „ .... him the respect .
and admiration of all Georgia
we managed to come out in good
shape as usual. The Wayne
County News simply refuses to he
downed ; and as long as the printer
sticks by us and is able to “ run his
face” for board and washing, just
so long will we—to quote Sam
Jones—stay on top of the dirt.
