A Host Enjoyable Meeting
of Woman’s Club.
One of the most enjoyable af¬
fairs of the many events occuring
in Jesup’s social world was the
meeting on Thursday evening of
the Woman’s Club in the beauti¬
ful and spacious rooms of Mrs.
II. W., Whaley. After active
Social suspension for several
months on account of a complica¬
tion of legal affairs which had
claimed the greater part of the
attention of its officers the call
meeting was greatly enjoyed by
the large number of members and
visitors present.
That the occasion portended
more than the ordinary
evinced by the presence of
Brooks of Ante Bellum days
stationed at the big gate
on the winding drive leading
to the house through rows of
bearing trees blew shrilly on
whistle of his own make
for the occasion to announce
the drive-way gate was open and
also incidental to announce that
there was something going on up
at “the big-house.”
Mrs. J. G. Tuten assited Mrs
Wha'cy in receiving as did Miss
Essie Drawdy.
After the meeting had been
called to order by the Chair Mrs
Whaley, president read a
showing some of the causes why
the Club had been in suspension
and stating that it was the pur
pose of the bodv to agahi i esumc
the work that had been interrup¬
ted. Owing to lack of time she
in giving a brief summary of its
past work was forced to omit the
many delightful social features
that had characterized the Club.
She but touched lightly the work
that had been accomplished in
sending children to school. She
however gave in sjme detail the
aims and purposes of the Club in
the following symposium.
The esup Woman’s Club was or
gain zed u< October, 19J0. Tte object
of tats club was luccllectual d.vetop
