The Wayne triumph. September 11, 1875, Image 1

T. B. Goodbread moved from Brunswick to Jesup, Georgia in June of 1875 to assist Hiram Bennett in the operations of the Jesup Georgian. Bennett, who had acquired the Georgian in May, ceased publication of the paper in mid-July, 1875. Bennett cited lack of patronage as the main cause of the paper’s cessation. On July 17, 1875, seeking to quickly replace the Jesup Georgian, Goodbread published the first issue of the Wayne Triumph. Goodbread frequently traveled to Brunswick in search of news to print in his news publication, which prompted the Brunswick Advertiser to complain in its September 8, 1875 issue. Goodbread’s attempt at maintaining a newspaper in Jesup was just as short-lived as Bennett’s, and the Triumph ceased publication in October 1875.
