Cambell County News.
Cambell county has now been under
a strict prohibition law for about
eight months. One of the stronget ar
guments used against prohibition was
jhat it would ruin the town trade.
Cilice prohibit ion has been tried we
have made inquiry as to what effect it
has made upon trade. The invariable
answer is: “In stead of being worse
our trade has been much better than it
was last year; and we look foi a hevi
er trade this fall than we have ever en
joyed”. Thus it seen is that prohibiton
has had no bad effect in this dircctu n
True, the people of our corporate
towns have had to pay a small advalo
tax to take the place of the money pre
viously received for whisky licenses,
but they have paid it most ch eefully.
The great advance in the morals of
our citizenship has more than compen
sated them, In reply to the aigument
that prohibition does not prohibit, we
cite the fact that not a drop of spirits
can he bought in Fairbuin for any
purpose. It is seldom that a druken
man is seen on our streets’ and during
the term of Coert just past not one
was seen. This much for prohibition
in Campbell. The law is giving gen
eral satisfaction to our people, and il
the election were to be held now, pro
hibitou would get a larger majority
than it ever did befoie.
