One of the leading and interesting
cases before the Justice court at Ris
ing Fawn last Saturday was in regard
to a cow’s tail.
The Rising Eawn furnace will pron
ably close down the first monday in
March, and suspend its operations for
about two months foi repairs.
Last Saturday was~app*arently, it
not in fact, ihe dulest day! in business
and trade matters we ever witnessed
at Rising Fawn and the furnace, espe
cially its being pay day at the furnace
Mr. J H. Gardner, at Sulphur
Spring station, made an assignment
last week to M. A. Payne for the bene
fit of bis creditors.
Preparations * are being made and
carried into operation to fill in an em
bankment in placa of the Wilkinson
trestle work of the railroed near this
place; alss one near Morgauville.
We are of the" opinion that this
town or its commissioners need stir
ring up, A g*cat deal is often said
about the revenue and benefit a town
derives from tlie sale of whiskey within
its corporate limits. We know it lias
brought a revenue, hut have seen no
apparent or beneficial appropriation of
it, though no doubt some of it lias been
lightly disposed of. We think we are
light in saying that S4OO has been
paid into the treasury within the last
two years as whiskey license alone.
If there is any of it left, Conld it not
he beneficially spent on our street, or
in some other way?
We reafret to clironicle the death of
Jimmie Rains, son Ans Rains of Cole
City, which happened in a tragic,
manner at that place last 'fi'hursday.
He was engaged about the mines in
carrying and seeing after the coal picks
and tools when, with a lot on his
shoulder, he unconsciously steped on a
coal tip or trap-door, which turned
let him fall thirty or forty feet. He
died in a few hours afterwards. He
has attracted our attention several
times when about the minEs; and we
extend our sympathy to the bereaved
parents.
