A SLANDERREFUTED.
The report is being circulated
that W. A. Byrd put into the streets
the family so much in distress, and
about which so much has been
heard, The facts are as follows:
Mr. Byrd being away from home
Dr. Morris got permission of Mrs.
Bvrd to let them go in their house
near the jail, but only until the
husband returned. Sheriff Byrd
returning found them in the house
when he ordered Dr. Morris to put
them out as he had put them in.
The next morning the party left
Mr. Byrd’s house and went into Dr
Ketcherside’s house, about a mile
South of town, the . sun Spring
very hot and the woman riding
astride the horse. It was told by
the family that Byrd had put them
out, and this they repeated -at Ris
ing Fawn, which no doubtgav cir
culation to the report that jj yi d (
had “shoved them out” and sent
them off to Rising Fawn. The
whole matte? resolves itself into
this—if some one circulated a base
lie for the purpose of injuring Mr.
Bvrd we unite our indignation
with that of an incroesed commu
nity, but if on the other hand if Mr
Byrd made them leave his house
and at the same time knowing to
their physical condition wo con
clem the inhuman act, and would
with scorn denoun:*- the the
perpet rated of the deed as belong
ing to the lowest order of humanity
and devoid of all human sympathy
HITS FOR A FEW.
