CLEMENTS NOMINATED BY ACCLAMATION. The convention which nn t at Codartown, September tho 6th, was attended by delegates from ah the counties in the district, except vVhitfied In the absense of Coi. Foubho, chairman of the executive committee, Mr. C. G Janos, of Folk, called the convention 10.. or at 12 m.. and after explaining the absence oi Mr, l ouche, J. A. Me- Karny, o: Murray, was nominated by if. T. Brock tor permanent ehaiiman. Col. W. C, Bunn nominated B. T, Brock for temporary secretary of the convention. The tempo rary secretary and chairman were made permanent, and Mr. Maitin, of Folk, was selected assistant sec retary. Upon the roll of counties being called the chairman oi each Dele gation presented a list of the dele gates from their respective coun ties. Cobb county delegates come instructed for Col, Philipps, but entered the Clements caucus, and declared their willingness vote , for him. but it was a surpaise to many, when Col. McKinney, of the Cobb *l’ legation put in nomination the name of Mr. Clements, &ayr g it hud been Charged that they were :>gainst him, yet he* (McKinney) was a Clements man, an a was glad -to -present his man to the conven tion, This brought forth an out burst of applause, ior it was now evident that their would be no op position, and the motion to nomi nate Clements by acclamation, was made, and it carried with a storm. The convention was solid, to a man, and'alt seemed glad that Clements is to succeed himself in Congress. A'Committee was'appointed to inform Mr Clements ol his renou.- i tuition, and in addition fi> a formal notification some enthusiastic sup porters contributed, and a telegram was sent lum at Washington in forming .bimiol hie nomination. Whitfield should have heed rep resented in the convention. Fite of Bartow, made a good talk in favor of the Colquitt resolution. Col. Seay, of P loyd, .was not. nt all in favor ot the Colquitt resolu tion, and he vary ably opposed its ►adoption. the delegations of Murray, Ca tooe: and Walker are the cleverest men r- North Georgia, at least v/6 thought so.
