Lumpkin’s record during the late war we consent to publish the fallowing manly letter from a gal lant soldier who could not coun- tenance, or lend his aid for the furtherance of a hellish scheme to the injury of a good man. It is a deviation fremnur rule to publish a private letter of any character, but we think in this cage the cir cumstances justify the means taken to arrive at the trim facts of the case at point, -ind we reluctantly publish the letter of Col. Nisbet, by which the public may know o| the record of a gallant soldier. C 1,0 VEK P A BE, Ga., August. 21st. 188 b. Col. Jas. L, Sheffield : Summerfield, Ala. Dear Sir:—T. J.
