In our last issue, we gave a no tice in a ludicious style of a rna; r: age of some of our colored peope, and after stating that ‘h« v were married by Dr. Kefchorsidc, the idea occured to us that the < olor of the contracting {{parties ’should be undertoed iji « rl «rto •''male the jok', rod w< u t ou; h d ..dtf ed “Colored” at me lasi siu.y a*» an explai a ory word. Wo intended it should have reference only to the parties who were married and not to the party who preformed he ceremony. Far he it from us to cast such an ungentelmenly allu sion upon any white respectable citizen. (Our rhetoric may lie i he. .■ h. 1 ’ on ' . ! Til 1 !• 1 t i, . i • ... r.-: I I•> fc v.i. \ •**!) H' ! " 1 . 1 | CiOOD liV i e «HJXIt'S Last week we jocularly an nouncod as a candidate for Judge of the county court that is to be, but it was with a “jubous feeling that we did so.” One week in pol : - | tics is enough for us, and we ain't running now ; its too great a strain on our nervous system, we can’t help hut get mad, and our sense of morality is too acute to allow us to stoop to such dirtiness. Our good name that lias heretofore been as free from suspicion as C.Ksar wife has been in one short week, we have been lied about by the ruc-st infamous liars m the county. In seven days the ambitious dream of our boyhood, the hopes of our immature, man hood have been blasted, as a deli cate flower by a cruel winters cy clone. We didn’t know exactly how mean we were till it was known that we had • oivro out for an office. We were badly fooled on this thing of politics, and we thought our name sufficient to brook all opposition, but it ain’t so, One poor, insiguifii ant wretch said lie would beat the socks off , of me but we guess he wont now—he will not get the chance, we have retired to private life to await like the old Roman at the plow, for a reverse of fortune to callus to assume the burdens Of state ar.d will go—if its to the Presidency. Come on boys, the field is open, and even rants jmay take a share in the fun that is coming. how it To-day we write a thing in all good humor, and without a feeling to prompt us to write a thing de rogatory to any man or womans good name, to-morrow it is pub lished and we are denounced as “a person fond of libel.” What is the matter? are wo crazy or are some other people fools? Wc claim no right, and disow n any intention to bandy with the feelings of others,or to outrage a community by denouncing a good citizen, but nevertheless such charges are in the wind. Nothing goes but what the editor hears it although he may hear things that are not so. Why should a body, sec’, tribe ora com munity of men who feel agrieved because some over sensative mem ber should fancy a vn : ong was intended him? “Oh! what fools ye mortals bo” to take every joke as an insult, and every^rhetorival mistake a personal libel. The devil seems to have gotten into the county, since nothing less fearful could produce such a woven chain of ovenlß as have been happening for the past few’ weeks, When we get it into our minds to do nonce a man, or to hurt him all over peo ple will say “that other was noth ing like this, he was joking.” We have such a case up for considera tion and may give it shortly to demonstrate our idea of what it lakes to make a man fed bad, out side an 'pothccavis chop.* It seems that, everything we say ie taken as insult! to someone and that one seems to have a contageous case of madness which permates the sys tem of his immediate friends, CH ill STM AS IS COMING, Our readers wnil turd enclosed i will this i<* - of our paper a cir cular with description and ’ .ic-s of many of the useful and han som o gc >ds oxiered for sale by the art and stationery department of die Lluien and Bates Southern i -Music House in Savannah, Ga.
