A WESTERN CYCLONE.
Stoux Crry, Towa, July 5.—A
storm, which partook of the nature
of a cyclone, swept through the
southern portion of this dity at
6 o'clock last evening. A funnel
shaped cloud, moving with great
rapidity and giving éut a roaring
sound was oné of the distinguish;
ing plienomena, The Catholic bell
tower was blown down and the
walls of the church church were
so badlv shaken as to be unsafe.
The new Episcopal missign school
was,wrecked. The plow factory, @
large brick building, was razed “o
the ground . The loss to the compa
ny is $15,000. Bogg’s & Co.’s pack
ing house was damaged $2,000. An
immense oil tank at the oil works
was blown to the ground, while a
huge pile of empty barrels directly
in front of the oil tank was undis
turbed. The plate glass front of sev
eral stores, were destroyed. Lirge
numbers of trees were leveled with
the ground. No casualities have as
yet been reported. The business
portion of the town was sheltered
by the Bluffs and were saved.
