“No, I won’t drink with

and banded the article to the pawn

And, boyg, what d» you suppose it
was? . A pair of baby shoes; [ittle

only once or twice “Where did
you get these?” asked the pawne
broker. “fiot 'em at home,” replied
the man, who Had an intelligent

man, despite hiz sad condition.
My wifé bought them for our baby.
Give me ten cents for ‘'em—l want
a drink.” “You had better take the

she’s dead. She's lyinging at home

and cried like a child. “Boys,” said
the drummer, “you can laugh if

A FIGHT WITH INDIANS.
Dexver, July 11.-Wilzon, Car,

the western part of Laplata county
near the Utah line, were atfacked
by Ute Indiang July 2d. Charles
Cook and Adolph Lusk, eniployes
of the cattle company, were badiv

horsea killed and 100 stolen. The
cowhovsa were driven off frem their
camps, and their outfits burned,
and thoir provisions canidd away
by the Indians, Two Wilson boys
eight and ten years old, roede 29
hours without food and rest, and
arrived at Durango Satorday night
in an exhausted condition. 'The
Utes have for some time been eans
ing trouble to cattlé men, killing
cattle and stealing horses. One of
Wilson’s men found several of the
latter’s horses in possession of the
Indiang, and undertook to secure
the same, an Indian atlacked hin
with a knife and was killed. This
precipitated the fight, Seventecun
thousand head of cattle arc left at
the merey of the Indians. Col. Hall,
Commander at Tort Lewis has
despatched a company of cavalry
to drive the Indians back to their
reservation, The Indians will prob

Some of the blades were as dry as

entirely dry, During Sunday quite,
a number of people looked at this
