stayed with ine about 8 weeks. The
boys learnéd him to hoe cotton
and he did very well. He asked
very humbly not to work on the 4th
of July. He said he was rdised to
helieve it was a sin to work on the
4th. So I told him he could loafer.
Ho came to my house with ragged
clothes. I bodght him some clothes,
afine pair of shoes and a good deal
of whigkey. He went to Buchanan
to get whiskey to drink od Lhe 4th,
and T gave him 75 cents, He asked
me to loan him my gun, and I loan
1t to the rascal, Mr, E. B. Barker
and I went to Bremen, and found
that the negro had sold my gun -
bought a ticket to for Atlanta. T

ton. We went there and found it in
possession of Felix Cobb, Esq.,
The negro sold the gun to Mr. A,
Pates, of Bremen, and he sold it
to Mr. Cobb I got my gun from
him by paying him three dollars.
I came back to Bremen, and Mr.
Pates paid the the three dollars I
paid lawyer Cobb. The gun is
