Why send away to buy what our own
merchants keep for sale at home? These
men pay taxes, sustain the trade, and
help to keep up the town. If our people
would have the town grow and our stores
filled with the best line of goods, where
things may be procured easily and cheap
ly, the best way to do is to patronize the
men who keep the stores, That is the
best way to build up a city. The best
economy is the support of our local deal
ers, It will help the town and help you.
Patronize home enterprise, Trade at

Mr. A. V. Howe tells us it is the
intention of many of our neighbor-;
ing farmers to furn portions of their
farms into orchards and vineyards,
and give their attention more to
fruit raising and to diversified
crops, and also to put their land in
shape for dairying. ‘This is one of
the wisest :?teps our farmers can

T
AN EXPLANATION.
We were very much surprised
last week at the comments and
disapproval of a few over the ap
pearance of the following para
graph in the BANNER!
“Gene Loveless says white aprons were
not fashionable in Rome Monday, and he
believes that some who wore them must
have felt like phules.”
Mr. Loveless, us is well known,
is full of fun, and could hardly live
without his jokes. He made the
remark on the streets as a joke, and
we published it as a mere joke, not
thinking in the least that any one
would become oftended atit. Noth
ing was ever further from our in
tention than to east reflections up
on the Masonic order. We have
always had the highest esteem for
the organization, for it is well
known that as a rule the order is
composed of the best citizenship of
the country. Then why should
we seek to bring such eitizenship
and such organizations into disre
pute? 1t is customary on celebra
tions or public oceasions for the or
der to turn out in uniform, and we
admire the custom.
The rumor has been circulated by
some persons who are unfriendly
to the Banxer, that the Masons
became so angry over the appear
ance of the above paragraph that
they came in large numbers and
ordered their paper stopped. Such
rumor refleets no less upon the
Masons than upon us, and we
deem it justice to the Masonic or
der to stamp such rumor as utterly
and maliciously faise. Not a single
subscriber ordered his paper stop
ped on account of the paragraph.
It is true that a few disapproved
the paragraph, but like noble and
true hearted men, they came and
told us so and requested us to ex
plain the master this week, that it
was published not as a reflection,
but as a mere joke. s
SIOO REWARD. SIOO.
The readers of the Baxxer will
be pleased to learn that there is at
least one dreaded discase that
science has been able to cure in all
its stages, and that is Catarrh.
Hall’s Catarrh Cure is the only pos
itive clire now known to the medi
cal fraternity. Catarrh being a
constitutional disease, requires a
constitutional treatment. Hall's
Catarrh Cure is taken internally,
acting directly upon the blood and
mucus surfaces of the system, there
by destroying the foundation of
the disease, and giving the patient
strength, by building up the con
stitubion and assisting nature in
doing its work. ‘T'he proprietors
have so much faith in its curative
powers, that they offer One Hun
dred Dollars for any case that it
fails to cure. Send for list of testi
monials. Address,
