That Cape May Cottage.
The Harrisons, it seems are
tired of their cottage at Cape
May Point, and have arranged to
go to an Allaghany mountain re
sort, where the use of a cottage
has been ofterd them. They have
not found the comfort and pleas
ure at Cape May Point which they
expected and which was promised
them. The musquitoes have an
noyed them during the day by in
sisting upon kissing Baby McKee.
They will therefore, seek a seclu
ded mountain resort where they
will not be troubled with musqui
toes and where Baby McKee will
rest from men and women who
think there is no satisfaction in
life like that of kissing the
grandson of a President,
~ The President prebably discov
ered that in permitting his wife
to accept a cottage at Cape May
Point as a gift he made a bad
mistake. The gift, was of course,
really to himself, and a President
islmuld never accept valuble gifts,
because the donors expect favors
of a grater value than those 'they
confer.
It is quite generally believed
that those who made the Presi
dent a present of the cottage at
Cape May Point did so for the
express purpose of booming town
lots at that place. Immediately
after the President accepted the
cottage immence advertisments
appeared in the Philadelpha news
papers relative to the advantages
of Cape May Point as a seaside
summer resort. The fact was
conspicuously mentioned that the
President had determined to
make it his summer home. The
town boomers endeavored to cre
ate the impression that the place
was going to be the summer capi
tal of the nation.
No sooner had the town boom
ers begun to use the President as
an advertisement than the ven
ders of soap, patent medicines,
easy chairs and various other ar
tickles attempted to do the same
‘thing. It is uot to be wondered at,
itherefore, that the President’s
family has found Cape May Point
unendurible, and have decided to
leave it. If the President had
been wise he would not have ac
cepted a cottage at thator any
other place. He would have un
derstood that such a gift would
have lowered him in the estima
tion of the people and would be
the source of great annoyance to
him. He could not now do a‘
more sensible thing than to return
the cottage to those who gave it
to him.—Savannah Morning News
