Married, at the residence of the bride’s
father, Mr. J. M. Mobley, wlmse homo is
two miles east of the city, Sunday, by
dev. X. J. Titmlin, Mr. Welter I.. Nix and
Miss Georgia Mobley. The groom is a
son of Air. J. N. Nix. one of the best men
of Carroll. The bride is a beautiful
young lady. The Times extends its
congratulations.—Carroll ton Evening
Times.
Governor Northen having been ask¬
ed to furnish a one-senteneed sentiment
to be ingraved on the World’s Fair mon
u raent, has sent on the following patriot¬
ic legend:
“Absolute protection against oppres.
sion in every home, the guardianship of
humanity in every law, the unquestioned
equality of every citizen in the privileges
of the government, and the broadest Indi¬
vidual freedom consistent with the pub¬
lic good, aro constitutional guarantees
w p cannot safely surrender.”
Tlie Times is talking up a cotton facto¬
ry for Car toll ton. Carrollton is ripe for
something of that nature, and the citi¬
zens, not only of the town but of the
country also, would do well to give heed
to the Times on this subject. Any kind
of a manufacturing establishment in any
town not only helps the town but the
surrounding country. If half the capital
of such towns as Carrollton was inv< stod
in manufacturing enterprises instead
of merchandise it would be bcttei for
both town and country. It would build
up a market for the country and a coun¬
try for the market.
The following from the C alvcston News
is worthy of consideration by every voter
in Georgia:
“To begin with, the people want law
makers in whom they have confidence.
They will never l>c inspired with very
1 ce¬ •p scale;' respect for the acts of a
islatur;' that brings forth headless dp
*'o’ mi tics, crazj# quilt novellies and
t iod (.’Xperimcnls filled with noxiousness
and danger. Nothing less than a Con
grensman'in capacity should be sent to
t.hc.LeisIaturo. The laws made by the
Legislature arc often of more importance
to (hapeople than acts of Congress. We
I- r.st relieve ourselves of the impression
that State laws are to be classt d with the
torn ordinances of the city cmmcils.—

ill turned over a few old quilts

jug . near'lv fn! of he ardent. And
bheriif Hewitt soon j-ygged Ed and liis
clerk John Moore.
The sheriff then went out to Capt.
Fitts' and arrested a snaggle toothed ne¬
gro named Tom Scott, and arrested Will
Dobbs at Bob Powell’s. These darkies
had been down ,to Tom Gilley’s grocery
and brought the jugs mentioned above.
Bob Powell seems to have known some¬
thing of the tiger business. lie said that
Ed Johnson owed Tom Gilley $20 for liq¬
uor, which is supposed to have been
brought anti vended through the tiger.
Bob says Dili Benson owes Tom Gilly $25
and that John Seymore owes him $20.
While Sheriff Hewitt was in the tiger
house he heard a gentle knock at the door
and said he knew that one of Ed’s custo
mers had come. He went to the door
and opened it and took the fellow by the
hand. It proved to be a darky, who had
30c. and a bottle, and said a young man
had sent him for a pint of the liquor.
Sheriff Hewitt informed the customer
*
that Mr. Johnson was not present, but
reckoned he could wait on him, and or¬
dered Mr. Tanner to accommodate the
young gentleman of color; but the darkey
didn’t stay to get his bottle.
Bud Wyatt, another negro, was at Ed
Johnson’s and he was jugged to.
A Times reporter was at the jail this
morning, and it looked considerably like
a country bar room. He had all of Ed’s
tiger fixtures, viz: Two jugs filled with
liquor, 24 empty bottles, a pint cup, some
funnels, ajelieyglass which was used as
a bar glass, and several other things.
Sheriff Hewitt says he has plenty of
iiieiico against Ed that he has been sell¬
ing by the drink and otherwise.
Mr. Hewitt says small white boys about
town have been going to this tiger and
getting as much liquor as they wanted,
or as much ns they had money to bny.
The good people of Carrollton are with
Air. Hewitt in his efforts to stop this ne¬
farious business.
