Closing Exercises of Miss Mc-
Collum’s School.
Shannon, Gu., April 14.
(Special.)—We have had some
very light snow Hakes this morn
ing. Farmers are behind with
th* ir work on account of so
much rain. We had two real
freezes last week. Most of the
fruit killed and gardens badh
damaged.
We have plenty of war talk
and every orfe are eager for the
latest papers. Some few express
themselves ready and willing to
help in the confl.ct, but most of
tln in are looking out for caves
and canebrakes.
Mr. Doyle O’Hanlon left last
Thursday for Ojala, Fla. We
suppose it was to get nearer the
war.
Genial “Bill” Ennis was in
our community Tuesday “lec
tionaring.” We think he will get
a heavy vote up here.
Mrs. Minnie Mulkey came up
Monday afternoon to see her
sister, Mrs Ward. She returned
to town 'Tuesday.
Mrs. Bill Floyd continues very
ill. She is not expected to live.
Miss Rosa McCollum will
close her school at Pope’s Chapel
tomorrow. She and her pupils
will have a merry little picnic
in the Popo park Wednesday if
the day is suitable. Patrons and
friends are invfted to attend
with well filled baskets,

Saturday and Sunday will be
the regular conference and
preaching days at Enon. A large
crowd is expected and we hope
to see the pastor, Bro. Keith,
present. He was unable to at
tend the last two months.
Every thing is quiet and very
busy between showers.
I was about to forget to mea
tion a very smart little dog
which Mr. E. N. McCurry owns,
It is several years old, and they
have only recently discovered
that he is a very trusty mail
carrier. He will carry notes ’two
miles ai d return with an an
