THE EXCELLENCE OF SYRUP OF FIGS
is due not only to the originality and
simplicity of the combination, but also
to the care and skill with which it is
manufactured by scientific processes
known to the California Fig Syrup
Co. only, and we wish to impress upon
all the importance of purchasing the
true and original remedy. As the
genuine Syrup of Figs is manufactured
by the California Fig Syrup Co.
only, a knowledge of that fact will
assist one in avoiding the .worthless
imitations manufactured by otl»er par
ties. The high standing of the Cali
fornia Fig Syrup Co. with the medi
cal profession, and the satisfaction
which the genuine Syrup of Figs has
given to millions of families, makes !
the name of the Company a guaranty
of the excellence of its remedy. It is
far in advance of all other laxatives,
as it acts on the kidneys, liver and
bowels without irritating or weaken
ing them, and it does not gripe nor
nauseate. In order to get its beneficial
effects, please remember the name of

Board of the public schools of
the city of Rome, by one of its
members and its secretary, pre
sented a report and requested the
council to provide $15500,00 for
the city schools and requested
that a levy be made of 1-5 of
1 % on the total taxable property
of the city for the purpose of
raising portion of said amount .
Upon motion of R. A. Denny
the council declined to accede to
this recommendation, for the
reason that the portion of the
act of 1897 which purports to
authorize the Board of Trustees
of public schools of Ro ne to fix
the tax rate of the city for school
purposes is unconstitutional,
because the act referred to. does
not state for what purpose the
tax is to be levied. The council
resolved to provide for the public
schools by their levy and appro
priation as heretofore under the
act authorizing the schools.
The Finance Committee re
ported the totrl taxable property
of the city to be $4,851,349.
