Commands Expedition.
San Francis',o, June 15. —Thirty
three hundred men, prepared for a
hard campaign in the far off Phil
lippiuv*, embarked on the trans
ports. China, Colon, Zalandiaand
Senator yesterday.
Fifty thousand people witnessed
the embarkation, and a
farewell that far supassad
that given the men of the first ex
pedition was tendered the depart
ing aoldier boys.
As soon as the troops that had
been assigned to make up expedi
tion had finished their breakfast
the work of raising camp, loading
tents ana baggage into wagons,
donning heavy marching uniforms
and forming into columns began.
Flour and canned meats for an
eight months’ supply are on board
the China and Colon, and four
months’ supply of all other ar
ticles of subsistence have been
placed on the Znalandia and Sen
ator.
The men were eager for the order
for the word to march. There was
little delay after the columns had
beentormed, and soon the 33000
men were on the way to the trans
ports. The entire line of march was
a jam of humanity, loaded with
flowers, fruits tobacco and other
good things for those whom they
may never see again. The usual
pathetic scenes were enacted.

It is intended to get the third
expedition away within 10 days.
The troops to go have not been
selected.
The fourth and last expedition
wiil be away by July 1. General
Merritt will go with this Meet. The
conditions »t Camp Merritt are
extreme y bad. Measles are pre
valent, and the typboia fever is
beginning to show itself. The Mon
tana men complain of the food
that is being given them and it is
said they -efused to drill yesterday
because they had been weakened
by their diet,
