The Hustler-Commercial
has the confidence of the classes
and the masses—because it mer
its and deserves the confidence
of all its readers.
Now is the time to tell your

Admiral Cervera’s ships will
make attractive prizer for Gen.
Shafter’s webfooted army.
The man eating shark along
our sea coast, that won’t eat
will starve this summer.
Poor Hamilton Fish, for some
reason or other a whole nation
learns of his death with deep re
gret.
Insurance companies looking
for good things should place
American sailors during times
of war among the most desirable
risks.
If Shafter will strike a good
hard lick at Santiago and strike
it well, he may beat Miles to
that lieutenant generalship.
An Italian paper published at
Rome gravely announces that
“George Washington is prepar
ing to assume command of all
the armies in the field against
Spaiu.”
It is said that Major-General
Shafter, who heads the invading
army in Cuba weighs 314
pounds. Perhaps that accounts
for for the heavy wait the army
had for marching orders.
The first troops were landed
in Cuba ti band music announc
ed that “There’ll Be a Hot Time
in the Old Town Tonight.” That
banc master. That bandmaster
deserves promotion.
From descriptions of the dyna
mite cruiser Vesuvius it is learn
ed that her guns, charged with
compressed air, throw shells
loaded with gun cotton. The
dynamite part of the name is
merely expressive of the sensa
tions of the man who is hit.
It is a queer sort of press cen
sorship that prevented the trans
mission of anything from Tampa
□earing upon our Santiago in
vasion and yet sends out from
Washington an authorized inter
view with Gen. Miles relating
in detail the plans of that inva
sion.

war. Before the war began there
were apparently more bloodthustv
soldiers in that regiment than in
any o'her in the country, anil
there was a suspicion in the minds
of aon’e fhnt the Seventh would
take a cooir-ct to drive the Span
iards out u. Juba without assis
tance.
When the call for 125.000 vol
unteers was made the regiment
presented a bold front, and its
colonel bad difficulty in restrain
ing it from precipitating itselt
upon the enemy. But it didn’t en
list. The regiment wanted to main
tain its organization and war
afraid it woulden’t be permitted
to do so —its members thought
they might be reqiured to sleep in
teLts with other fellows.
But the regiment said it would
get into the service semehow. It
hasn't got in yet, and there is
therefore a suspicion that it has
been trying te find out how not to
get in.
When the call for 75,000 troops
came the friends of the Seventh
felt sure that its opportunity had
come, and that it would soon be
maichitg down Broadway on its
way to an encampment, and that
half of the women of the city
would be in tears. But there is to
be no marching and no tears.
Governor Black, after a long
talk with the colonel of the Seven
th on Monday, decided that the
people of New York city would
need the Seventh if Gen. Weyler
*ith an army or Admiral Camara
with his crippled fleet should sud
lenly appear in New York harbor.
The place of the Seventn in this
war is therefore settled —and per
haps satisfactory, to its members

to go with the flag. The war is
