MAY BURN SANTIAGO
Off Santiago de Cuba, June 28 —
While the army advancssthe main
portion of the fleet lies patiently
in front of Morro castle, awaitii g
its opportunity. Before the end of
next week the fate of Santiago and
Admiral Cervora should he de
cided.
The general opinion ammig navy
experts is that Santiago town will
be buned by the Spanish troops
before they surrender, that Ad*
mini’ Cervera will destroy hisship
and that bo will thru sul nut to
the enemy.
There is tvery possibility that
the Spanish troops may surrend' 2 ]
independently of Admiral Cer vera.
If the Spanish admiral should in
sirt on thus prolonging the agony
he would be subjected to a fire
from his own forts and the army.
When the Americans too* Bai
quir they found a letter partially
wiilten in a house’addressed to the
Spanish commandant at Santiago.
It said in part:
“I am well fortified and prepar
ed to resist a’l tne forces the
American pigs can bring agains’

Rejoice Over The Alleged Suc
cess of a Blockade Runner.
Mexico City, June2B. —Theie
is much rejoicing here among
Spanierds over the alleged ar
rival at Havana of the steamer
Villa Verde, laden with provi
sions contributed by Spanish
residents before the outbreak of
hostilities. It is claimed that the
agent of the Spanish Trans-At
lanta company in this city had
received a cable from Havana
announcing the arrival of said
steamer at that port. It is under
stood that the Ville Verde ob
tained clearance papers for an
unblockaded port.]
When she sailed La Epoca, a
pro-Spanish paper, published at
Vera Cruz, from which port the
vessel started, printed a picture
of the steamer, accompanied by
an article in whieh the Yankees
were defied to capture her.
