VACATING CAMP ALGER
Nine Regiments Have Already
Left For Manassas-
Washington, Aug. 6. —Nine (
regiments have left camp for the
new rendezvous at Manassas,
some of which have already ar
rived shore. The remainder will
get away from their present
quarters by Tuesday next. The
ambulance wagons have had a
busy time bringing back to the ,
division hospitals at Camp Alger
the men who were prostrated by
the heat durfng their long
march. Seventeen typhoid fever
patients were taken to the sen- -
eral hospital at Fort Myer.
A general field hospital also i
will be established somewhere ’
in the vicinity of Manassas for i
the treatment of the more severe <
cases of illness. '

Which was Caused by a Flash
of Lightning.
Flemington, N. J., August 6,
—A terrific thunderstorm pass
ed over this section early this
morning, accompanied by high
winds and sharp lightning. The
residence of Mrs. Kate Kuhl, at
Copper Hill, was struck and
burned to the greund.
About an hour after the storm
had subsid d the family were
awakened by the cries which
came from two pet parrots in the
kitchen. One was screaming for
“help,” and the other was rais
ing the alarm of “lire.’ 1
The members of the family
hastily di essed and hurried io
the kit' hen, where it was dis
covered that the house was in
fl ones.
Every means of possible es
cape were being rapidly cut off,
and only for tiie wild and in
cessant cries of the parrots, some
of the members of the family
would probably have perished.
Tiie lire had gotten beyond con
trol when discovered, and the
dwelling was soon a mass of
ruins.
