Criminal Docket. —In the
city court for this week Judgde
George Harris will take up the
criminal dockets. There are
many cases to be disposed of and
the outlooK is very fine for a
heavy grist at the mills of jus
tice.
First Baptist.—Dr. R. B.
Headden, the beloved pastor
announces the usual services at
the First Baptist church today,
that is,in the forenoon at 11 and
in the evening at 7 :30, with the
Prayer Circle at the usual hour
i» the afternoon. Everybody
cordially invited to attend.
Cake Walk Et al. — The color
ed high society of Rome will have
a sociab'e at the city hall on Mon
day night. An orchestra from
Marietta will furnish the music.
Visitors from Chattanooga. Mari
etta, Atlanta and other places are
expected. The entertainment will
close with a grand cake walk. H.
M. McCloudy is manager cf the en
tertainment.
First Methodist. —Rev. S.
R. Belk, will conduct both morn
ing and evening services. The
morning theme will be the “Di
vinity of Christ.” Dr. Belk is
home from his summer outing
and seems to be in pri me condi
tion for delivering the powerful
sermons for which he has such
a reputation.
Minutes Now Ready.—Capt.
A. B. S. Moseley, the veteran
clerk of the Floyd County Bap
tist Association, requests the
Rome Hastier-Commercial to
state that the minutes of the
Floyd County Baptist Associa
tion are now ready and all clerks
and other members of the
church can secure copies of same
by calling at the office of the j

Five New Convicts. —Sher-
iff W. T. Crocker and Deputy
J. E. Brooks, of Polk county,
brought in five convicts from
Cedxatown court and sold the
same to the Commissioners of
Floyd county yesterday after
noon. Two of the convicta were
white and thrae were colored.
Their aggregate terms of seryice
amount to eight years. One of
the negroes is in for three years
for fighting. The Floyd chain
gang, under Supt. Hackney, is
doing splendid road work for
the county.
Is Back at Home. —Mr.H. S.
Lansdell is making arrange
ments to movo back into his
pretty home on Tower Hill. He
and his family gave up their
home whex they went to live in
Wetumpka, Ala. Mr. Carlton
Wright, member of the popular
drug firm of Jervis & Wright
has been liviag in the Lansdell
cottage. Mr. Wright has moved
his family across the street to
the cottage, which has been va
cated by Mr.and Mrs.W.S.Lang
ford, who have given up house
keeping and are boarding at the
Armstrong.

city court yesterday afternoon,
the jury in the case of Jess Harbin
vs the Southern Railway brought
in a verdict for $2,000 damages

Messrs. Maddox and I. E. Shu
mate.
A Beautiful Quilt. —Mrs.
Pink Turner has received from
her mother, Mrs. E. Turner, of
Atlanta, one of the most artistic
pieced silk quilts ever seen in
the city. The blending of colors
and the exquisite needle work
show that the creator ’ possessed
an artists’ eye and is skilled in
needle craft.
Lieut. Reeves at Home.—
Lieut. James Haynes Reeves,
of Gen- Wheeler’s staff, reached
Centre, accompanied by his
ather, Col. Jas. A. Reeves,
Wednesday. Lieut. Reeves con
tracted a serious case of fever
in the Santiago de Cuba engage
ment and has since that time
been confined at the Battey In
firmary, Rome, Ga. Lieut.
Reeves is considerably improved
we are glad to state.—Coosa

The Noblest Roman.—Judge
Joel Branham, of Rome, has
returned heme after an absence
of three months. He has been
visiting his daughters in Balti
more and New York and is
greatly improved in health. He
not only looks better than for
ten years, but says he never
felt better in his life. His friends
all over the state, and he has
many of them, will be glad to
know of his restoration to
health. —Atlanta Constitution.
