ENACTED AT SI’EVENSON AL\
L t Sun.lny tlx re are two shies and
Public Sy in pat i y is v< ry much
divided.
Scottsboro, Ala , Feb. 6 —The
terrible tragedy which occured
Sunday at Si- v n on and has cau -
ed in'eiis* grief in auroral homes
here, is the talk of the town.
But the conversation is quite
and many of our conservalive cit -
zens say but little and remark, “it
is too terrible for ordinary couve -
sat ion.”
The Skelton brothers are still
in jail wi'h their cousin, Join
whom it is claimed fin d the fatal
shot. Their perliniinary trial wi 1
take place on Thursday, and they
have engaged able counsel.
While many people refuse t°
talk, yet thera are some who ex
press their opinion fully and there
are two sides to the question and
public opinion is devided.
Some think the Skeltons beliv d
Ross to be the seducer of their sis
ter, while others deuy that he was
and charged the killing to be a
coldblooded murder. The deceas
ed had many friends. His wife
lies very low and fears are t eute*-
taiued of her recovery.
ilut.b b, . p h is expr a ed for
b<*r and also for Judge John B.
Talley, a relative of the Skeltons
who is universally esteemed here.
He will tonight leaves for Fort
Payne to hold c >urt there.
All classes of cstizens univer
sally deplore the tragedy and sym
pathize deeply’ with the judge
who is not only' a good lawyer and
on v of the best judges in the state
bit is the movt excellent citizen
and one of lhe kindest of men,
Many of Ross' friends thinks he
acted very foolish in coming back
Here and s >me of them say ho was
expecting an encounter, and if he
ai-.d Bloodworth could have gotten
the drop on the Skelton boys it
would have mixed things some
what.
The county court is in sassioß
here today and a city election is
also being held. A good many
people *ro here, but order and quiet
prevails.
