The Rome Tribune says: ‘‘How
do men of inteligence hush their

The Tribune, that paragon of

Tribune.
The above, from the 6eay ticket
organ is leveled at John D. Moore
who has served in the council, a
man who has never made a busi
ness failure.
At A. B. MoArver, a most success
ful young dry goods merchant, whe
advertises extensively —out of the
Tribune.
At. W. J. Neel, a most decidedly
successful young lawyer and finan
cier.
At Henry Stoffragan, a sober?
hustling, wide-awake [young busi
ness man, handling his own affairs
and heavy intereits for othirs.
At Judge Walter Harris, whose
ability was such that both tickets
put him on and only sheer desper
ation drove the Seay ticket into
dropping
And at T, J. McCaffrey, a man
who has been tried before, and
who proved himswlf fully compe
tent—a man who seems to have
succeeded better in following his
daily avoc tion than has the edi
tor of the Tribune.
Continuing the attacl, “Old
Potty de la Merehine” says:
“That is the danger to which in
experience and incapacity is open
in every business, especially iu
the public business.”
Had the Tribune, with all its
backing, financial and otherwise,
proven its self some kind of a suc
cess, its cry of ‘ wolf,’’might alarm
the natives; as it is the people of
Rome know John 1) Moore, and
his ticket, and know them well,
and the only question now is:
“how many hundreds of a majori
ty shall we give them.
“OLD POTTY” IS RESTLESS!
“There is money to be saved in
the funding of the Rome bonds by
the new council, provided that
body has the ability to conduct
the difficult negotiations which
must be gone through with before
two or three hundred thousand
dollars worth of bonds can be suc
cessfully floated . —Sunday Tri
bune.
The majority of the registered
voters of the city of Rome have
every confidence in the ability of
tho John D. Moore ticket, to ar
range for the proper handling of
“those bonds’ - —The Tribune
should not worry its self, for time
will prove that the new council,
with John D, Moore as mayor .vill
edit the city’s bonded indebted
ness with a deal more ei se than
the Tribune people are editing
their own.
The Tribune's diet of “machine”
made pie and telegiaph pot metal
seems to be most productive of
“bonded” night mare« with “finan
cial*’blue ribbons woven in the
tails and mains. Let “Old Potty”
and her sweetheart, The Argus,
and their colored offspring, the
Sunday News, take a day off and
get the Seay weed out of their
hair and tbe Seay sand out o their
eyes.

clipped from the Constitution of

“Hon. W. Y. Atkinson came up
from Newnan yesterday and spent
the day in tbe city. He was cordi

around the hotels, and they w re
busy talking politics the entire
day. But Col. Atkinson seems to
have his hands full now with the
attention he is giving the Girl's

and takes but little interest in the
division of the epoi's the p c

the people of irad that he

Since th t late M Atkinson has
assisted in crushing one of Atlan

POLITICAL RETORTS.
While tbe Atlanta doctors are vac
cinating people to ward off small
pox, it would be a good idea sos them
to examine tbe Evans boom. It will
probably be found that it needs diji
talic to increase heart action, as its
vitality it getting low.—Co’umbus
Ledger.
Tbe Evans boom is not epidemic,
for the simple reason that it is to>
slow to be “ketchin ’ —anything.
Good democrats are proof against
such a disease,
“Already they are casting about
for their best and meat available men.
Polk county will figure conspicuous
ly in congressional politics, and a
Cedartown man has been favorably
mentioned as a possible nominee.
Colonel Miller A. Wright is looked
on favorably by many of his party as
a good man for the lightning to
strike, and it may be that he will be
the man." —Cedartown Standrrd.
Should Colonel Miller Wright take
tbe stump, The Hustler of Rout
will report his speeches and make
“syndicate" articles of them. We will
work our “patent” on Colonel Miller.
GUBE RNATORIALLY SPEAKING
The “associate editer’’ of the
Americus Times Recorder takes ex
ceptions to the position of the Solid
South on the old soldier sentiment:
We know the old Confederate soldiers
better than does the “associate edi
tor." We were a follower sf General
Longstreet in some of his most noted
battles, but think it time now to let
qualifications be the standard for of
fice. Sentiment has ruled, politically,
long enough. The time ha« been when
ab old soldier could get what he
wanted in the way of an office, re
gardless of quahfii ation. Sentiment
ruled then, politic illy. New let us
look at something more than’the “old
soldier” when we want efficient of
ficers.—Rochelle Solid South.
In common with a large majority
of the young men of the state, we de
sire 'o see a live, progressive wide
awake young democrat in the gov
ernor’s chair, and in the person of
W. Y. Atkiuson we have chosen the
man for the position.—Cochran Tel
egram.
* NATIONAL POLITICS.
The Democratic party has but one
request to make of the Democratic
Senators—get together. The majori
ty in the Senate is too slim o ndulge
in ar-v nwskev business—Newnsn
He.aid.
The war is over. War measures
should be fostered no more. L't the
iniquitious tariff go and the people
have at least, a portion of their rights.
