We fiad the road from Joe Har

Dalton road from Ayeoca’d shop to
Gee. Warren’* badly neglected, aud
we present the road commissioners
of tha 919th district, fer neglect ot

the clerk of the Superior iwuu

that the pan of the Redmond Gap
road lying in the 919 District in ua i
order and call attention to it.
We find that a footway is badiy
needed on the White s Ferry road
near North Rome and call attention
of the Road Commisioners te it.
We find some bad holes ia the Ala
bama road near the district line, and
recommend that they be filled wita
stone. Complaint is made against 14
L. Troutman, Jr. for neglect as a
public ferryman. We find a culvert
on the Cave Spring road near the
Fair ground stopped up with brush,
and call attention of the Road Com
missioners of the 919 district to that
place. We unanimously recommend
that the chain gatg be put on the
Summerville road, and the gap be
tween Harris's and Smalley’s be
worked as soon as it is practicable for
the same to be done.
Public Records: We find the sher
iffs books to be neatly and correctly
kept se far as we can judge. We sug
gest to the Tax Assessor to notify
the Justices of the Peace aud Nota
ries Public of the law requiring them
to furnish him a list of tax payers in
each district and impress upon them
the necessity to see that every man
ju the county is on his books. We call
the attention of His Honor to profes
sional men who pay* no tax. See de
faulters list,
The School Commissioners books
seem to us to be correct and properly
kep». Our County Treasurer is very
efficient and we recommend him for
the excellent system and the willing
ness with which he at all times has
madn statements to us.
Our tax oollector seems efficient
and his kindness to delinquents is
vnry apparent ; but large amounts
of interest are paid for lack of
promptness en his part. The spec
ial examiner R. J. Gwaltney and
the Grand Jury have recomended
that the Tax Collector be lequired
to keep a cash book showing the
dates on which each tax is paid
and also giving the number of the
stub es the receipt. It ie further
recommended that he be required
tn keep a list of delinquent tax
payers and thatfi. fas. that are re
turned with endorsement. “No
property found” be entered ou this
lint against tbe name of suoh de
fanlter and the stub number of the
tax book be also stated. It is fur
ther recommended that the Coun
ty Treasurer be required to tur-

I him by the sheriff or any bailiff
on afi . fa. lor taxes and that the
i Tax Collector be required to enter
such amounts with the dates on
which t was paid on the list es
the tax defaulters, entering the
number of the tax stub. Said list
to be furnished by the Treasurer
quarterly. We recommend that the
County Attorney prepare such a
bill and that the Commissioner of
Reads and Revenues see that it is
properly advertised and passed by
eur next Legislature. We think
'he system of books kept in the
Commissioners office is correct and
ample; but many of the amounts
paid out by them are extravig«nt
—in our judgement. We call at
tention especially to salaries es
different oflieers medicine hills and
amounts whioh have been paid for
convicts, and we urge upon them
that the stringency of the times
and th. sacrifices the people are
making te pay taxes demands to
ecunemize very rigidly . We have
failed to .xamiae our clerk’s books
not having access to them. Justice
of Peace Dockets: We have exam
