I was talking to Seab Wright
THE HUSTLER OF ROME. THURSDAY APRIL 12, 189
this foreuoou and learned from
him that this cold weather was
playing havoc with his turkey
crop. He tells me that he has had
60 birds hatched out and though
he has exercised much diligence
and great precaution, he has failed
to save the tender fowls from the
blight of the blast, and they are
‘flying in great droves. Mr.
Wright’s incubators, however, are
in fine trim and while the eggs
last, the output will continu® to
arrive by the three weeks route.

Ina conversation with Mr- James
A. Stephens, father of Free Stephens
the good citizen murdered by Frank
Wilkerson, Mr. Stephens said to ire
this morning, that Mrs. Stephem,
widower of his murdered boy, had
told him last fall that Frank Wilker
son had tampered with the balls in
her husband’s pistol and that Wilker
s>n was not afraid of Free’s pistol
Perhaps this tampering accounts for
the reason why the shots from F ree’s
Smith and Wesson No 38 would
only make a flesh wound and lodge
iu the arm, while the shots from
Frank's 32 would bore a big man
like Stephens, through aud through
Mrs. Stephens says the “tamper
ing“ wu done.
