Atlanta, Ga., July 2.—Will Ro
per ihe young mountaineer who
was some lime since shot three or
four times and afterward thrown
into a mine shaft over fifty teet
deep is destined soon to look into
tile faces of his alleged assailants-
Roper as will be remembered,
was brought to Atlanta last week
in a half dead condition and plac
ed in St. Joseph’s infirmary, where
he is slowly recovering.
Soon after his arrival in Atlanta
he gave the names of hie supposed
assailants to the deputy marshals
and efforts we<e at once put od
foot to effect their capture, it was
rumered that the white caps
took fright and fled to the moun
tains of Murry county, where they
entrenched themselves with the
avowed determination of resisting
arrest. Reports from Murry
county stated that they had
vided themselves with 500 rounds
of cartridges and would not be
taken alive.
Six deputy mashals were dis
patched to the scene with instruc
t.ons to arrest the whitecappers
dead or alive, and those who were
familiar with the situation hourly
anticipated a bloody battle between
the officers and the outlaws.
A telegram received last night
from Dalton now puts a difierent
phase on the situation.
It is to the effect that J. W.
Redd, J. M. Morrison and J. T.
Morrison, three of the alleged
white caps had voluntarily sur
rendered themselves to the author
ites.
They appeared before United
States Commissioner H. C. Hamilton
at Dalton yesterday morning and
Redd and J. M. Morrison wen
bound over in the sum of $1,0(0
each. J. T. Morrison was required
to give a bond of $2,000.
The excess of the latter’s bond
over the others was due to the sac
that J. M. Morrison and Reda were
in Dafton on the night that Rope l "
claims to have been assailed by them
and can probably prove alibies. It i*
said that they at tended the college
commencement and were seen by a
number ©1 prominent Daltonians at a
late hour that night.
Payne Duncan and William
Morrison, two other men who were
also implicated by Roper as partic
iprting in the assault upon him,
are still at large, but it is general
ly understood in Dalton that they
will also surrender themselves
within the next few hcurs. Antic
ipating such an outcome. District
Attotney Joe James has placed
their bonds at $2,000 each.
The trial of this case, involving
as it does so many sensational and
marvelous details, will be watched
with interest throughout the Un
ion.
Professor Boykin, of Silver Creek
after a pleasant visit to Troup and
Coweta counties has returned to
Rome much benifited in health and
improvedin personal anperarce.
Mr. R. L [Morris, the Second Ave
uue grocerer, expects a eftr load of*
large, luscious, fresh water mellons
this afternoon. Look cut and wait for
the fresh fruit off the vine.

He Was Arrested Yesterday
Foier.o n While Preaching
NOW LANGUISHES IN JAIL
With his Raiment Discarded he Stood
Among his Congregation and Dis
coursed’on the way ol Ute and Call
ed Sinners to Repentance.
Quite a sensation was sprung
yesterday morning, when it leaked
out. that a “New Prophet” was iu
the city and that even then he
was preaching unto the colored
sinners of North Rome.
The story was made more sen
sational when it became known
that the “prophet,” like Adam iu
the Garden of Eden was clothed
only in climate.
Complaint was made to the au
thorities, and deputy Sheriff J.
P. M-cCouuell, accompanied by his
son Raymond and officer Cope
land, went out to investigate.
Jn a cabin, near John Reese’s
suburban home the officers found
I
the False Prophet and his congre
gation. Some of the members had
seen the officers approaching from
afar and had hustled the Prophet
into his raiment, and when tlu
oflicers arrived under the gales ol
the new temple the Prophet rush
ed on them, charging like a mad
bull.
The officers clinched with him
and a desperate struggle ensued;
it resulted iu the pinioning of th.
powerful mad man. He .was led
thence toward the street car line
but ?e went not in peace but raised
his voice and cussed out every
thing in sight.
The walk was a one. and
was made all the more fatigueing
because of the fact that a young
disciple of the Prophet, dogged the
steps of the officers who were tore
mg the Prophet along.
At the car line the conductor
refused to take the caravan aboard
because of the wild flow of profan
ity that eminated from the black
HDB of tbe unmuzzled. Fortunate
ly for the heated and wearied of
ficers. Prof. E. L. Pollock came
along in his buggy and seeing the
lay of the land offered transporta
tion.
The Prcphet cursed the officers
and told them to put him in the
buggy if they wauled him in, and
oe had to be handled thusly.
At the jail about 200 negroes
had assembled by the time Shiek
Isham arrived. He was lifted from
(he buggy and carried to a cell and
turned in Five minutes later he
was iu “negligee.'’ and was
again calling the people to judge
ment.
The prisoners at the jail were a
sleepy set when the Hustler en
tered those hallowed walls this
morning. r l hey say that the
Prophet who gives his name as,
Isom Mitchell, Henry Goodman
Walker, alias I. H. Anderson,
walked his cell all night and
preached and swore by turns He
was clothed iu climate and raving
iike a third partyite when tbe
Hustler interviewed him this
morning.
Officer McConnell went out this
afternoon to investigate Shiek
Ishams congregation, of yesterday
which is said to have numbered
about 40 souls, some of whom were
wondertully impressed with the
“new prophet” and new doctrines.
