FOR WOMEN FOLKS
OUT As LAST.
“At one time in my early prac
tice in a country town,” said a
dentist the other day, “there
came to me a very nervious wo
man to have a tooth extracted,
b
She carried on so that I could
[ scarcely get her in to the chair,
and as soon as I put the forceps
, near her mouth she screamed and
( bounced about so that I couldn’t
i do anything with her.
, “After two or three visits each
worse than the other, 1 suggested
that 1 should take her to the near
est large town, where a dentist ad
, ministered gas. AVell the tooth
, hurt her so, that at last she con
» sented, and I took her there, about
> 25 miles by rail.
“I went armed with a pair of
forcepts, as a matter of habit, and
’ when we got to the place and she
saw the gas bag and other appli
ances, she had the fidgets again
worse than before, and I had to
. give it up and take herback home.
I was thoroughly provoked, and
much annoyed, but she had mon
ey, and was paying for her foolish
, ness, so 1 tried to restain my feel
ings.
About 10 miles out of town, and as
the train was going along about 20
miles an hotr, and she was holding
her j iw, and I was holding mine in
in the seat beside Her, we came into
collision with something on the line
and the l -.st thing I knew we were
rolling down an embankment, and be
ng piled up in a very promiscuous
i ashion.
“I don’t know how it came about
out I wasn’t hurt much, and when
my senses were fully restored,! drag
ged my parent out through the win
dow, and laid her on a bank near
b y-
“She was pretty badly bruised, and
had been knocked senseless, and, as I
was endeavoring to restore her, a
brilliant thought occured to me.
, The next moment I had out
my forceps, and the next I hand out
the confounded tooth. Two hours
’ later one of the physician who had
beensummond had restored her to
consiciousuess, and, as she open
ed |her eyes and saw me standing by
her side, she clapped her hand to her
jav , and exclaimed:
Oh, ductor, I knew it would be
terriable. but I didn’t think it would
be so bad as that. However, though
its out at last.’’
“Then she went to sleep, and was
a week before she knew the real facts
of the case,’’
•‘Did she pay you anything extra?”
asked the writer.
“No,” smiled the dentist, but the ,
railway company did— twenty-rive
hundred dollars—and I got half.
BUT AVAS SHE KINDE?
He—“l ve brought you a pet mon
key to amuse you, darling. ”
She—“Oh, h.»w kind of you! Novi
sbaij’c miss you when you are away. ’
