CYCLONE AT MEMPHIS
One man Killed and a Dozen
Houses Overturned.
Memphis, Tenn., September 12.
—A portion of north Memphis was
swept by a tornado today at 11 :30
o’clock a. m. destroying and dam
aging property to the extent of $3,-
500 and killing one negro, Robert
Culp, and injuring two other per- 1
sons slightly. Tin? portion of the
city visited is the sat of i> lum
ber mills and the dam 1 ? f.ib-i'tip
on t h ree of them.
One hundred yard- of the Woli
river bridge of the Ciiesapeako,
Ohio and Southwestern railroad
was picked up and thrown 100
f?Lt away. The tornado came from
the south, traveled due north, and
it is said by the weather bureau to
have been purely local.
Conan's cotton gin’ and mill,
north of Memphis, were part ly un
roofed and trees were twisted and
uprooted as if mere pipestems.
Corn and cotton in the path of the
tornailo were destroyed.
