“Mr. James J. Carbitt, Cham
pion of the World —Dear sir: At
every opportunity when my name
has been used iu connection with
a battle with you for the world’s
championship, you have endeavor
ed to belittle my claim fora fight
on the grounds, as you put it, that
I am uot in your class, or that you
have not seen the color of my mon
ey.
“I am very well aware of the
fact that although I have earned
more money than you at fighting
since I have become middleweight
champion, you can buy and sell
me financially, no doubt, your fac
ulty of saving being greater than
mine. Therefore I hope that a $lO,-
000 side bet will not stand as a
barrier against securing a match
with you.
“The amount of money that I
shall put up has decided many
a championship contest in the
.past, and 1 hope you will uot
refuse, when you sign for a525,000
purse, such as offered by the Olym
pic Club, at the present time. You
will find my name attached with

WILL NOT • ‘KNOCK YOU OUT.”
‘ln order to show my sincerity
to the public at large I will make
you two propositions,
First—That we engage the larg

a boxing exhibition, four rounds,
scientific points only, for the ben
efit of the poor of New York city.
I will give you any pledge that you
may demand that I will not at
tempt to knock you out. In case
competent judges decide that I am
not in your class so far as skill
and science is concerned I will
never ask for a match with you
again.
Secondly I ask to be allowed to
formally challenge you to give me
a chance to meet you to a finish
to decide the world’s champion
ship, according to the MarquisJ of
Queemsbury rules.
“In order to again show my sin
cerity I hereby deposit the sum of
SIO,OOO as a side bet with the
privilege of increasing it later on
if my financial standing will al
low.
“I most respectfully call your
attention to the fact that I have
already signed articles to meet you
before the Olympic Club for a $25,
000 purse, winner to take all, and
I trust you will see your way clear
to do likewise.
Respectfully, yours,
“Robert Fitzsimmons,

MUST GET INTO JIM’S CLASS.
Lewiston, Me., September 27. —
Champion Corbett said today re
garding Fitzsiminon’s challenge
after his victory over Creedon last
evening:
“Fitzsimmons may keep on
fighting middleweights until
doomsday, but I will not meet him
until he gets into my class. He
has been challenged time and again
by Steve O’Donnell, and he has
got to recognize him before I will
fight him.”

Wheeling, W. Va., Sept. 28.—A
Baltimore and Ohio train, when
