FOR AH OPINION
On Those Floyd County Bonds
The Treasury Department
is hostile to the issue
and Will Fight it
Bitterly.
Washington, October 16.—Sec
retary Carlisle has referred to tl e
attorney general the opinion ot
Solicitor -Reeves that F loyd coi n
ty can issue bonds to be used as
currency.
While Mr. Carlisle has expressed
no decided*opinion, it is believed
among treasury officials that the
opinion of Solicitor Reeves will ba
reversed by the attorney general.
Treasury officials who are near
to Mr. Carlisle say the decision is
absurd, and whether or not it is
revel s>d by the attorney general
the treasury department will fight
any issue of one, two, five and ten
dollar bonds by a county to be
used as currency.
The opinion of Mr. Reeves has
caused much criticism in the de
parting t but until the attorney
general renders a decision nothing
degnite will be done.
