Hill Cemetery This Afternoon.
Mr, W. F. Thompson, who met
his death in the Rome Railroad
yard, was laid to rest on Myrtle
Hill this afternoon, by the burial
service of the Odd Fellows, of
which order he was a member.
Dr. Gibson preached a beauti
fuk&ermon at the First Methodist
church, and a large number of the
young man s friends were present.

A Big Damage Suit.
! Meridian. Miss., October 26—-A
damage suit for $50,000 against
I the Mobile and Ohio railroad was
filed in the circuit cierk’s office to
day, the plaintiffs being the heirs
of V illiam Roberts, who was killed
near here in September by au this

city.

London, OctoKer 26.—The St.
Petersburg corrtkpondent of the
Central News Company says:
“Severn! persons havdbeen arrest
ed here for discussing in public
places a theory that the czar’s
malady is due to poison. A private
meeting of students was surprised
by the police today while discuss
ing the situation, ipd all present
were arrested.
An immense quantity of mourn
ing draperies has-been taken to the
hedral and stored in the ante
chamber. Similar preparations
are being made in all the churches
in the capital. Special reporters
at Yalta telegraph that they re
ceived permission to visit Liva
,dia.
Father Ivan remains at Livadia.
He officiates at the daily religious
services at Yalta. The church is
always thronged and remarkable
fervor is displayed by the congre
gation.
“A dispatch received this eve
ning says that the czar passed a
painless day, though his weakness
is increasing, The king of Greece,
who is in Corfu, has ordered that
the arrangements for the czar’s re
ception there be hastened, as he
has received more favorable news
from Livadia.’’

Berlin, October 25. —The St. P
etersburg coyespondent of The Col
ogne Gazette telegraphs today that
the czar received with great cour
age the intimation of ,his physi
cians that there was no hope of
saying his life . The same corres.
pondent adds that a few days later
when he whs feeling somewhat
better his majesty remarked:
“It is sad that a man of my
years should have to die; though,
personally, Ido not cling over
much to
my life of use to my country he
will make me well.”

The czar still according to The
Cologne Gazette’s correspondent,
then gave orders for the settlement

It is reported here that the pri
vate marriage of the czarewitcb to
Princess Alix has been postponed
tor a short time, and that the cere
mony «f betrothal may only occur
onplc nday,Wednesday pi d Friday.
During the five dayslt is stated,
the czatewitch has been authorized
to sign documents in the name of
the czar.

The Pall Mall Gazette from Yalta
says that the state carriages, trap
pings etc , to be used on the occa
sion of the marriage of the czare
wich and Princess Alix, together
with the regiments necessary to an
adequate military display have ar
rived at Livadia.
It is also stated that the mourn
ing coaches, garments of woe, etc.,
to be usedin the event of the czar’s
death, arrived at the same tim*.

A Young Couple Fibroin Parental
Objections and Get Married.
Madison, Ga., October 26. —
Quite a riffle of excitement was cre
ated in this city this morning when
it was learned that Misplert Beard
en, daughter of ex-Mayor J. W.
Bearden, and one of the leading
society ladies, had eloped with Mr.
Janies F. Wilson, of Spartanburg,
S. C., but who is now buying cot
ton at Crawford Ga.
Mr. Wilson bought cotton in
this city last year, where he met
Mbs Bearden. They soon formed
a, mutual attachment for each oth
er, which culminated last night in
their marriage.
Yesterday evening at 5 o’clock
Miss Bearden boarded the fast
train, ostensibly to visit relatives
in Greenesboro. Instead of stop
ping at Greenesboro she went on
to Union point. There she was
met by Mr. Wilson with a few in
timate friends and they boarded
the out-going train for Crawford,
where they were married last night
at the residence of Mr. D. M.
Goulding by Rev. J. F. Cheney.

A Labor Agent Arrested and Held
Under Bond.
Selma, Ala., October 26.—Miss
S. E. Gray, one of theemployea of
tiie Mathews cotton Mills of this
city, received a letter from the
McGinnis Cotton mills, of New
Orleans, asking if any hands
Wanted to go to New Orleans, and
if so they would send them trans
portations at her request. Joseph
Mathews went around with her
among the handsand quite a num
ber of them signified that they
would go. He was arrested on a
warrant sworn out by one of the
cotton mill officers for interfering
with their labor.
The case was tried before Judge
Lawson and Mathews was bound
over to await the action of the
grand jury in the sum of S2OO. He
gavb bond. The officials of the
mills will prosecute him for frying
to induce their laborers to quit
work under a written contract.
