Rode off With the Girl, Leaving
the Groom Behind.
Vanceburg. Ky., Nov. 2.—Y**-
t*rday Mias Kate Haworth, was tn
have been married to young Na
than Taylor, but th* marriage wan
forever postponed.
A few months ago. Youug James
T. Geodwin and Miss Kate were
engaged to be married, but for
oouiM reason the match was sudden
ly broken off. Not long after this
rupture Taylor, a well-to-do farm
•r began to pay devoted court to
the interesting young damsel. It
was long, long after this that their
wedding day was announced.
Last evening the crowd was gath
ered Jto witness the event, when
the termer lover, Joseph Goodwin,
came riding up to tne fence in
front of the Haworth residence,
called for the girl to come out;
that he wished to ‘ speak with her
just a second.”
Shv obeyed with unseemtngly
haste. r l ne together in
low 7 tones for a short time, when
the girl hastily sprang on behind
the ex-lover and the fro went
bounding away toward Obio,whi n

Amusements.
The educated ponies and dogs
that will give exhibitions under
their mammoth tent in this city
on Second Avenue, Near the river
three night,beginning Monday Nov
sth with a matinee Wednesday a'
3 p, m. Too much can hardly b*
said in praise of these highly train
ed animals, the exhibition that
they give is so unlike other enter
tainments given by educated horse*
or dogs. There is not one dull mo
ment on the program, nothing that
is monotonous. It is comedy from
start to finish; it is high class
amusement and strickly moral.
Prof. Gentry has spent years of
time and labor in designing the
most attractive way of exhibiting
their intelligence. Noon* in the
city should miss this grand oppor
tunity. Prices are within reach of
all. Children 10 cents; adults 20
cents.
Death s from Hydrophobia.
Abbeville, Ala, Oct 31. —Two
sons of John Brannon, of Henry
county aged ten and nineteen years,
were taken sick last Sunday and
seemed to be afflicted with hydro
phobia. They would bite and gnaw
at everything in their reach. They
continued to grow worse and both
died Monayd within six hours of
each other and were buried in one
c ffln. None of the famly knew any
thing about their having been bit
ten by any animal.
There is no medicine so often
needed in every home and so ad
mirably adapted to the purpose*
for which it is intended, as Cham,
btrlain’s Pain Balm. Hardly a
week passes but some member of
the family has need of it. A tooth
ash or scald promptly relieve
and the sore healed in much less
time than when medicine has to be
sent for. A sprain may be prompt
ly treated before inflammation sets
in, which insures a cure in abont
one-third of the time otherwise re
quired. Cuts and bruises should re
ceive immediate treatment before
the parts become swollen, which
can only be don when Pain Balm
is kept at baud - A sore throat may
be cured before it becomes serious
A troublesome corn may be remov
ed by applying it twice a day for a
week or two. A lame back may be
cured and several days of valua
ble time saved or a pain in th
side or chest relieved without P“y

Very Embarrassing.
Columbus, Ohio, November 2.
Mrs. Jenness Miller, the dress re
former, at the Auditorium this
afternoon was interrupted in a very
sensational manner at an import
ant point in the programme.
At the time Mrs Miller was to
appear before the 500 ladies pres
ent. clad only in a union suit o
underwear, two gentlemen entered
and seated themselves in the rear
of the house. Mrs Miller did not
appear in the union suit until the
gentlemen had been ejected.
