THEffIJSTLER OF ROME, FRIDAY NOVEMBER, 2 1894.
HE WAS SANE.
Jerry Boyle Disgust*: the Ft. Worth
Gamblers.
Ft. Worth, Texas, Nov. I.—A
seedy looking individual, giving
his name as Jerry Boyle, arrived
in the city Saturday evening from
the West. He was solemn looking,
wore a ministerial suit of black
and looked as though he might
have been a country preacher off
on a vacation. He registered at a
cheap hotel, ate dinner, dalled it
supper, and started out to see the
city.
About 2 o’clock yesterday morn
ing complaint was made at the po
lice station by several members of
the gambling profession, charging
that he was crazy, but, as he was
perfectly sane he was liberated.
It appears that Boyle’s earthly
possession® when he arrived in the
' , 'ty amounted to 25 cents, and it
Be? is his sanity was questioned on
account of his mania for more. His
first move was to enter a do vn-town
gambling house. Here he found
himself on the sunny side of Easy
street, and in a short time he was
several hundred dollars in the lead
Fickle fortune continued to smile
on him, and he visited every gam
bit g hall in the city, and in tbe
space ofabuut five hours bis win
nings amounted to something over
$7,0u0. Ou his arrival in the city
ue was sized up as a green angel,
one of the s <rt that is always will
ing to cash a draft tor some nev> y
made acquaintance, jbut for fear I
mat he would remain in the city'
longer the owners of the elephants
and ligers escorted him to' the
Union Depot last night and saw
mm safely off to Dallas.
