Mr. Phillips, the president, per

BARBERS IN BRITAIN.
Descriptin of Dubin and London
Shaving Shops
In Dublin the first-class shop*
are managed la the same way ms
the leading shops of Loudon, nnd
most of the first-clt»» journey
men barbers here hail from London
and they are paid what are called
London wages, that is 85 shilling
a week, but a barber in order to
get those wages must also be a
1 idies’hair-dresser. The cheaper
shops only pay their journeymen
from 18 to 20 shillings a week. The
first class shops chrge six pence,
that is twelve cents, for shaving
and the same price for hair cut ting
and shampooing
The cheaper shops charge only
two pence or four cents, for shav
ing, hair cutting or shampooing.
Some shops ii. Cork only charge
one penny for each. The first
class shops here turn out a custom
er just as well as the barbers in
Americar, if not a little better but
I would not let the cheaper bar
bers shave my dog.
Some of the finest shops in Dub
lin have our old fashioned chairs
and some have just an upholstered
chair with ahead piece attached.
The cheap shops most of them just
use a wooden chair and the barber
wears a dirty apron but in the finer
•hops they wear white coats and
cle u n white aprons, London fins u
great mfiny'shops, but there are
only a few really good shops. Most
of the barber shops here are called
toilet clubs, and they are all locat
ed on the second floor. They get
threepence for shaving. The jour
neymen barbers get about 30 shill
ings a week ; a few gets more, but
they depend largely on their cus
tom j rs for tips. The best shave I
had in London was in a barber shop
conducted by a lady. She employs
five other ladies and charges three
pence for shaving and a lit le ex
tra for dressing the hair. There
are only about half a dozen shops
in London which have modern
American chairs.
