With a Paper Weight.

capacity as often as I please, hot
ly exclaimed Chai im in Reps Jones,
of the board of public works, ad
dressing his remarks to Mr. W. L.
Russell, the senior of the board.
A great scene of excitement fol
lowed. Mr. Russell, despite his
gray hairs, sprang with agility to
his feet as the Chairman rose, af
t«r the above exclamation, and
struck the chairman a stinging
blow in the sac«. The Chairman
seized a glsss paper weight and
dealt Mr. Russell a terrible blow
on the head, fiom which the blood
flowed in prof s’ >n on his shirt
and coat.
Jones then attempted to strike
Russell a second blow with the
weight, but in some manner the
weight slipped from his grasp.
This exciting scene occurred in
the board of public works room be
fore the spectators hardly knew
what was up. Chief of Police At
kins sprang to his feet and caught
Mr. Russell, who grabbed a paper
hook and threw it at Chairman
Jones as he left the room. Tue
trouble was over Chairman Jones
ordering some work done which
Mr. Russell and Mr. Borches, as
sociate members of the board did
not approve. The slfair created
quite a sensation here and it may
not end at this. A son of Mr. Rus
sell’s soon heard of the affair and
started after Mr. Jones, but his fa
ther persuaded him to desist.
