WHITELAW NEAR DEATH
Since Mr. Reid's Arrival in Egypt
His Malady has Grown Worse
New York, Dec. 18. —A private
cable received to-day announces
that Whitelaw Reid ’b malady has
continued to grow worse since he
arrived in Egypt, and that his con
dition now is alarming.
As was told in these dispatches
at the time, Mr. Reid’s physicians
held a consultation the latter
part of October, and concluded
that it would be impossible for him
to live until Christmas in this cli
mate.
He was ordered to the Nile where
it was said, he might last untill
spring—hardly longer. The cable
received today, however, seems to
indicate that the climate of the
Nile has not produced the benefit
expected, and Mr. Reid's friends
here fear that the next dispatch
will announce his death.

WILL SERVE HIS TIME.
Says he Would get no Benefit by
an Appeal.
Chicago 111, December 19.
President D u b» and his associates
a long conference held this morn
ing decided to go to jail and serve
the terms imposed upon them y
Judge Woods without making any
effort to secure habeas corpus or
appeal Thia action is taken direct
ly ag&iust the advice of their law
yers who, even no », insist that
they will try to get the appeal:
D 'be gave aw a reason for this 1
sudden change of front that he
and. the other directors have no
confidence in the courts and be
lievethey would get a fair shew
there.
He thought it w s better, he said
to serve out terms at once. “We
will get through all the quicker,
and we think we would certainly
have them tOß’rvi in any case. ’
All -the prisoners will go to Cosk
County jail, not withstanding the
fact that Judge Woods ruled that
they could have there choice of
jails.
