COUNTY POLITICS
Election Occurs Wednesday Janu

SOME CANDIDATES i

Some Offices are Sought a'-
ter by many, while oth

cant for PublicZ
favors.
The county election is drawing!
to a close, and next week will see
the work practically finished up.
While there are many candidates
for some of the offices there has
been a total lack of mud slinging
or bitter personal fights. If any
body has dealt in uncalled for epi
thets, etc., they have been very
careful io keep the fact f oin any
great public notice.
And truly the people are glad
that such is the cas-, for nothing is
■o disgusting as lot of men seeking
office by breaking down the good
tame of their opponents.
The election for Sheriff, 'fax
Collector, Clerk of the Superior
Court, Treasurer, Tax Receiver and
Coroner, occurs Wednesday, Jan
uary 2nd, 1895. The only county
officer that holds over is Ordinary
John P. Davis, who has two mor°
years to serve. When his time is up
he will be succeeded by himself,
for no clever or more popular man
lives in Floyd county than Judg-
Davis.
On Saturday, January sth. the
election for Bailiffs will take place
There are two bailifls to be el vi
ed.
For Sheriff there are two ickets
’d the field. That tri dui.d i.u.*led
itizen, J. P. McConnell headsone
and has as his deputies, Dallas
Turner, Clip Williamson and S
‘B. Alltea. That is a ticket that
I cant be beaten.
1 T’he o her head dby Capt, T. J.
i Willi inson, and the deputi s are
| L. Lytle ami A. P. Redmond.
; For Tux Collector’? place there
•is only one candidate—the man
, who has held it many years—John
iJ. Black. Os cou se he will be
• elected.
J There is only one candidate out
i for clerk of the Superior court,
:Wm. E. Beyseigel.
I Mr. James B. Hill, the present
jclever tre suer, cannot be beaten,
; so no one has had the hardihood to
loffe as his opponent.
‘J But thercs a number anxious
j for the lax Receivers place.
Among them are the following:
M. D. McOsker, R. L. Foster, Geo.
Washingt' n, J. B. Lumpkin, and
F. W. Quarles.
Coroners office is another posi
tion that peems to be sought after
rather eagerly: Lon Sudduth. John
I I Got dard, T. M. Drenuon and Maj.
E. Dhvis.
Candidates tor bailiff are as
I hick as uluiiin leaves. The fol-
I lowing are a few who have announ
ced for the office : Henry Beard,
. Dick Tread away, W. P. McLoed,
l>. E. Morgan, Thomas Morris, W.
1 |M. Byars. F. AL Carwile, E. L.
1 Pollock and W. M. McG; ee, color

From now until the day of the
, election times will be lively, and
, on hat day the voters of Floyd
county are going to elect good
1 men tor all the offices.
