The Beautiful Snow—some how
or other it. »trikes uh all in a heap,
these fine closing days of the good
year 1894. But the snow and the 1
year are siv "tiy melting ?w?y.
I not ; ce many novel rigs on the 1
street today—and well there’s no
accounting for human ingenuity
when inspired by “beautiful
snow,”—Why a fellow could al- ;
most be tempted to put runners to <
his mother-in-law just to see her
scoot alcng so gaily over the white
roads.

with full force to many of the
States of the Union. Butfortunaie
ly for the good and weJifare of em
ployees in the good old empire
' State of the South. There is no
need for party disintegahuu to
achieve that end. It is liKely not
generaly known that the legisla
ture of 189 J passed a law entitled:
‘‘An Act fcr the protection of dia
chargeb employees, and to prevent
black-listing.” This law prvides
that if any railroad company, after
disekUging any employ e, shall
prevent, V attempt to prevent
such obtaining em
ployment, indirectly,
then such sompany shatr-. I' 1111
ished by a fine not over SSOtA d’* 1
less than $ 100.
Another Act passed at a subse
quent session of the legislature
goes further in the protection oi
employees, and provides that when
any railroad company discharges
an employee it shall be tne duty
of the campany, when requested so
to do. to furnis such employee a
specific statement of the cause ol
discharge; and if such discharge
was caused by any complaint or
communication, then such com
pin’at or communication, from
whatever source it came, must be
given in substance to such d;schag
ed employee, together with the
name of the company making such
complaint or send mg such com
munication.
Then furthsr if the railroad
company shall fail or refuse to
give such informatien within
twenty days from request to do so,
or shall give a false statement of
or concerning such camunication,
or shall give a false rexson for the
discharge of the employee, then
the company so offendiug shall be
liable to such discharged employee
for damages in the lum es |5,000.
This is wholesome legislation and
should be known by employees
who are inclined to think that the
aws donot proect them.
