It seems that twe negroes, Joe I
Hazleris and Jim Penu, better
known as “Jim Paddy," were sui
picioned of the crime, and a war
rant was sworn out for their arrest.
Bailiff Sam Knox, with the as
sistance of others, arrested both of|

at Mr. Hammond's res dence for

About midnight a large crowd
