- McLean and party left tonight for
Washington. Mr. McLean was
1 considered the democrtic candi
date for senator and his d partur
- is regarded as an indication that
3 he concedes the legis'ature to
) the republicans, not withstanding
: the numerous notices of contest.
Before his departure, Mr
3 McLean held a conference with
3 Chairman McConville and ether
> democratic leaders. There is
- nothing known as to the probable
1 policy of the democrats as a mi-
- nority in the legislature, but it is
i believed they will join the anti-
Hanna republicans in bringing
out a new man for senator.
The question has been raised
as to whether seveuty-three votes
are neccessary to ellect a senator
that the majority of all. If
( a majority of a quorum only is
necessary, some might-be sick and
it would be less embarassiug than
. to be present and vote against the
caustic nominee. 'lhe point has
also been raised as to the success
ion to the governorship.
If Governor Bushnell shcu’d
be elected senator by a fusion the j
the lieutenant governor Mr. A. '

chief executive. As the state sen
ate is held that a democrat sena- I
