New York, N v. 16.—Elizabeth
Englehardt and Christian, her
husband, both 71 years old, got
into the Divorce Cuurt to-day
after forty-eight years of married
life. According to the lawyers for
I Mrs. Englehardt, the husband has
become a too enthusiastic fisher
man within tne past two years.
The couple have had t n child
ren. They have had amassed a
fortune of over SIOO,OOO in the
wholesale baking business. Afier

his wife taken to Bellevue Hospital
.and examined as to her sanity. Dr.
Fitch declared Mrs. Englehardt
perfectly sane.

Woodford pleaded guilty to bur
gl>ry and was today sentenced to
serve four year in the penitentiary,
Woodford was arrested in this
city early in the summer on the
charge of burglarizing numerous
houses.
Tne clew upon which Woodford
was arrested was a manuscript
story which fie hid written de
tailing the feelings of a man who
committed murder while in the
act of robbery. It is also asserted
that the plot of the story corre
sponds with the details of the
murder of an Adrian (Mich.)
man in every wav.
After he shall have served his

der.

prisoners were well guarded by
mounted and foot police,
The public prosecutor asks for
the death penalty of Vi'lavicenco,
the ex-inspector who suggested
the murder to his chief, Velasquez,
the inspector general of police,
who committed suicide in prison
Villavicencio expects to escape
with life imprisonment. Manuel
Se’ido, major of police, is one of
t-be principal criminals, as he was
privy of the crime and took no
means of preventing it. Miguel
Cabrera, assistant c’ ief of the ;
detective service, also knew of the;
projected killing and took to steps
to pievent it. Mauro Sanchese,
a police nan. was guarded Arroyo
and was aware of the intended
crime and tightened up Arroyo's
str light jacket so he could ofler no
re-is'alien. Ignacio Pardaue led j
the band of assassins.
Capital sentences are asked in j
all these cases. O her criminals
are of minor degree, but some of
them are likely to be sentenced
to death.

Gibson, Ga. Nov 16. —At
midnight last night the citizens
of the community of Sleepy LI d'-
low six miles frem Gibson, were
aroused fro n their slumbers by

sent Norris word that if he divulg
ed it he would kill him.
Norris may have had a hand in
the killing but it is evident that

In fact it was a lynching by a
negro mob.

dict for $65,000 to Mrs. Florence
Van Schaack against her father
in-law, Peter Van Schaack for the
alienation of her husband’s affect
ions.
Peter Van Schaack is head of
(he firm of Pet- r Van Schaack &
Co. druggists, of Chicago. He is
said to be a millionaire. The plain
tiff lives at Bath Beach. On March
‘2O. 1888, she married John Van
Schaack at Pensacola, Fla. Since
tnat tune the couple have lived in
New York, Chicago and New
Orleans.
On March 6, 1897, the couple
separated. Mrs. Van Schaach in
her affidavit alleges that she was
abandoned and that her fa’hur in
